it's not cartoony, per se, from what i understand. it's a more "fierce" looking falcon. think of those photos on the west side of anderson of the old teams and how the logo looked in the gym.Schadenfreude wrote: If they put a cartoon animal on our helmets, I'm going to puke. Please tell me it's not some derivation of the Redskinhawks logo.
I'm a bit on edge at this point. I love our current logo. Unfortunately, I see it eventually being phased out because everyone will buy items with the "new logo" thus making the "old/current logo" obsolete. It will eventually be a business decision to stick with just one logo. Bye, bye, LT. Hello fierce falcon.

This is disturbing.
I'm so unsettled by this that it's going to ruin my weekend.
When you get a good logo, like the Falcon head, you don't change it. Why don't you change it? Because it becomes your identity.
Falcon Head:
Distinctive? Check
Unique? Check
Simple? Check
Identifiable? Not yet, but success will bring that.
New logos have been the rage in minor-league baseball the last few years. Cartoonish birds, dogs, rats, echidnas, mongoose, etc. Guess what, in a few years, those are going to look dated too, then time for another change.
We need to maintain the continuity; Think Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Red Sox, Dodgers, Steelers you know their logo. The Arizona Diamondbacks have at least 3 logos. Does that serve them as well as the Yankess?
Sorry for the rambling, but I'm disgusted.

I'm with you. I LOVE The current logo and hate to see it go away. I cannot stand all the cartoony logos in college sports. I like the nice simple Falcon Head, its sweet. It's also very easy to draw on a poster yourself with no artistic talent.Lord_Byron wrote:

I won't let it ruin my weekend, but it will piss me off somewhere down the line.

Let's see what they came up with.
And let's see how they plan to use it.
Everything else has worked out so far. They haven't dumped brown. They came with pretty good uniforms for this season. (Not my choice, but they are good nonetheless).
I'm nervous, too. I'm not going to sit here and tell you our logo is perfect. It is a wee bit dated, frankly. A little 70s, a little corporate looking.
Still, our logo is good, and we've had it a long time. So we need to be careful.

Let's make it three. I think that updating the unis, the new scoreboard, and having a standard athletic font are all great moves! But the Falcon Head is traditional, unique, and is really a great logo! Just like no other NCAA School has the Orange & Brown color scheme, name me another team that has a logo as distictive as ours??? It's minimalist, which is the beauty of it! I'm not happy either.hammb wrote:I'm with you. I LOVE The current logo and hate to see it go away. I cannot stand all the cartoony logos in college sports. On the other hand, we were all worried they were going to phase-out brown from our color scheme. But the opposite seems to be true. So I hope this is nothing more than rumor and conjecture.
I love BG. I personally like and get the current logo. It's identity, tradition all of that. However, I do see how outsiders might have a hard time identifying, understanding or even recognizing the logo. I have traveled around the country, and I have even been asked what is that? In years past BG has had a different logo. If we are all really interested in BG getting national recognition, there is no doubt that success on the field will be the biggest factor, however a more marketing friendly logo can't hurt. I wish we could see then vote. I hope it's unique, because if it isn't it could backfire on us. Did anyone else catch the BlueJays new logos when they were playing the Tribe earlier this week? Maybe the worst new logo ever! I didn't have the sound on because I was trying to read, and for the first 3 innings I thought we were playing the DevilRays.
I think the Athletic Department has done a good job with the changes to this point, so I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. I just hope that the new logo isn't similar to either one of the logos on the 1978 or 1980 helmets.

I'll wait until I see the new logo before I really make any comments on it. I actually like the logo we currently have, but with all the change going on at BG, I can't say without seeing the new one whether or not I will or will not like it. I can say one thing for sure though, I LOVE the new font we are using, (the font on the top of the new scoreboard). If this new logo is anything along the lines of how they did the font, I might be a big fan of it. But I'll wait and see.
GO BG!!!

Agreed for sure...terrible logoFalconKing wrote:Yeah, that thing is horrible. They really need to bring back the old simple Blue Jay. Like it or not, those who aren't biased towards BG tend to think our falcon head logo is stupid.
Maybe something sleeker, sharper, and more creative would be better. As long as it's still reminescent of the traditional falcon head, being simple and stylized, and as long as it looks cool, I don't think I'd have a problem.
Yes, it would take a while to get used to, but we had to get used to what we have now, didn't we?
