Game thoughts....
I don't know what the deal was with the second evacuation, but how anyone can question the first is beyond me. I didn't exactly "run for the exits", but the lightning that appeared to be picking up in frequency, intensity and proximity from the north didn't look like something I wanted to mess with while standing amongst row after row of metal bleachers.

Per Todd on the radio...if there's lightning within 6 miles they call the game...there was an aoppretnly very strong storm near Bettsville or someplace.
I think they emptied the stands here and not at Meechigan because our crowds can be evacuated to a decent sized men's room while moving 110,000 people onto the streets of Ann Arboir would take some doing.

Very true about Ann Arbor. I remember reading something awhile back, probably over a year ago and it talked about the worst disasters that could happen in the U.S. I think #1 was a hurricane hitting New Orleans and we all saw what happend there, but in the top 5 or top 10 was a severe storm/tornado touching down during a Michigan football game or Indy 500.

The announcer was cracking me up during the evacuation. "Lightning has struck within six miles. Please evacuate the stands." *pause* "Please seek shelter immediately. There is an imminent danger of lightning." *pause* "You people do realize that you're sitting on metal bleachers."TG1996 wrote:I don't know what the deal was with the second evacuation, but how anyone can question the first is beyond me. As for the game, it's a disgrace that the special teams have cost us so many points. The offense still looks like it's trying to find it's groove with AT at the helms. The defense looked shabby at the beginning at times, but they definately picked up the slack after the delays as well as after the half. I'll agree with the statement that the defense will probably be the backbone of the team.
As for the student section being full after the delays, it wasn't too full after the second one. A good majority stayed after the first delay, but a lot of them bolted after the second one to go party and probably watch the OSU-Texas game.
Overall, I'm just happy to come out of the Doyt with a win after a game like that.
Those are your parents in front of us? REAL nice folks...I enjoy talking with them all the time.
After the first delay, Class of 61 and I ended up on the East side to watch from a different viewpoint. After the second delay, I headed under the Falcon Club and Bookstore tents and wait it out. I watched the 3rd quarter from the end zone. Back to our usual seats for the end of the game.
As for the game itself? I can honestly see everyone's opinions and understand where they're coming from. The postitive, the negative and the downright awful ST's. I have no idea what will happen next...and I'm finding I'm agreeing more with the folks that are, IMO, more negative about this coaching staff. Why? Cuz the same trends keep happening...especially on ST's. Maybe I didn't want to see the cold hard facts but they slapped me in the face on the way back to Akron last night. I can't pretend they don't exist. We've got 10 games left this year...we MUST get that ST crisis fixed. I am still a Brandon backer...good dude that wins a lot of games. But some of the playcalling and the obvious ST mess has my mind reeling right now. I'd love to pick AD Christopher's brain right now to get his thoughs.
We knew this team would struggle with so many young players out there...the only thing that matters right now, to me, is we're 1-0 in the MAC. That's it. I'd much rather be 1-0 than 0-1 but we have a ton of work to do to improve.
On to FIU....just bring back a W.

Flipper- I read in the paper today that they did "ask" the Michigan crowd to evacuate (CYA by the athletic dept), but where in the Heck are you goin to put them? There is no stadium overhang, so they said most people just popped up their illegal umbrellas (HEY- LIGHTNING- OVER HERE!!) and waited it out.
As you said, where do you put them- oh yeah- in their aluminum motor homes!

Freak ... Glad to see you composing some thoughts here ...
I made myself wait a couple days before posting about this one. I'm relieved that we won, but I'm concerned about the special teams, and what appears to be a very unimaginative and predictable offense. After our special teams basically lost us the game against Wisconsin last weekend, I expected things to be corrected this week. I was disappointed to see the same-old, same-old with our special teams. I, like others, think we can win out (other than Ohio State), but we have to correct the special teams issues, and get more creative with this offense. We have a good line and some athleticism at the skill positions. I hope this offense evolves a little. The defense was pretty decent. Being from Wooster, originally, I'm a huge fan of Terrel White. He and Dozier had nice games Saturday. As for Buffalo, yes it was Buffalo, but anyone who has been to these Buffalo games over the years can see that they're improved. We didn't exactly slaughter them last year. The final was 27-7 and it was a lot closer than that. Yes, I was ticked off at the way we played Saturday, but in the end, we found a way to win. I will say this, I hope for Coach Brandon's sake and his staff that we show improved play and win games because a new AD likely will not hesitate to pull the plug if he thinks the program is not moving in the right direction. I really don't want that to happen because in spite of the playcalling and the closeness of this game, I think GB is a good guy who cares about the kids and this program. Based on what I've seen so far, it looks to me like the East Division is actually the better division this season. At the same time, though, I don't think there's a MAC team out there that we cannot defeat if we improve each game, correct the special teams issues, and play turnover-free football. Saturday's performance was disappointing, but it was a W, and that's all that matters to me right now. If we don't improve and we end up dropping a couple games we should win, then my posts will sound more like a lot of the other posts on this thread. Actually, if I hadn't made myself stay off the board for a couple days after this one, my posts would have looked a lot like most of the other posts here. LET'S BEAT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL!

Very good post BGSU99. I like the your reasonings behind wanting to keep Brandon in the program. If only he could figure out how to make our ST's work like the '03 offense, then I think we would all be a lot more relaxed. Hopefully we'll see changes and improvement against FIU!
