I'm sensing something.......

Post by Rightupinthere »

A dynamic shift in MAC Conference [sic] team capabilities this year.

WMU over UT at this point 24-10
BG needs OT to win over UB
OU destroys NIU in Dekalb
UA over NCState.

It's going to be an interesting year, kids.

I am trying ont to overreact to one week, but I think the weak of the MAC have quietly become the strong.

I would lean more the other way. The strong have weakened. Buffalo did little to impress me today, and NIU's defense has looked horrid thus far.

Akron is starting to do good things in both football and basketball.

It's now a final in Kalamazoo. 31-10 WMU over UT.

Looks like I'm buying tix to the Megamillions lottery.

Who would have thunk. It's only the second week, but one just can't help but notice the potential for a trend.

I'm with J4H, the haves in the MAC have become the have nots, and the have nots still haven't any.

This conference is looking to be pretty crappy right now. Akron is the only team that is worth a damn right now.

I'm withholding judgment until next week. There have been some pretty strange results across the country over these first two weeks.

I totally agree. I've been scratching my head the past 12 hours trying to figure it all out. It isn't just the MAC. Things across the board are upside down.

I don't think there was a single shocking result in the Top 25. Discounting Colorado, things are pretty predictable.

I'm not suprised to see WMU beat Toledo...I said at the outset of the season Toledo will struggle early and likely lose that game. OU beating NIU is a suprise. The Huskies were supposed to have one of the MAC's better defenses, but they haven't stopped anyone. Granted, Troy Smith is a great athllete, but they just let Austin Everson throw for over 300 yards against them. Austin Everson....he's a nice runner for a QB, but he's no Bruce Gradkowski or Omar Jacobs.

If NIU doesn't find a way to stop someone and Toledo doesn't find a way to pass protect (Cochran really struggled under pressure last night from what I've read) That Tuesday night game in Dekalb on November 7th may be meaningless

Notre Dame squeaked by Georgia Tech, then crushed Penn State....

Georgia shut out South Carolina.

UTEP sent Texas Tech to overtime...although I guess that one isn't a HUGE surprise.

Those three games surprised me.

It isn't just the Win/Loss result. It is the closeness, or sometimes lack there of, that has left me cratching my head.

Ohio was suppossed to be improved this season, although crushing NIU in DeKalb is still suprising.

WMU getting all over Toledo is not suprising. WMU does some nice things in Kalamazoo.

Buffalo not laying down for BGSU isn't suprising either. They have some good size, at least from how they looked against our guys and they have some very good speed. If they can pull out a few wins, I would look for them to be vastly improved next year, just based off the confidence they'll have!

Why isn't there any mention of how Ball State should have beaten Indiana? or Miami should have beaten Purdue?

Akron did a great job in beating NC State, but didn't dominate or anything like that. Until we can get consistent results out of teams, I don't think the MAC will be taken seriously, on a national scale. Although Kirk Herbstreit did give his suprising performance of the day to Akron and good things to say about Luke Getsy and J.D. Brookhart.

The score sure looked bad, but like your game we dominated many of the stats. We had over 300 yards in total offense and they had about 250.

They did not turn the ball over. We turned it over four times and had a botched snap on a field goal attempt that basically is five turnovers in my book. They returned an INT 94 yards for a TD when we were about to retake the lead early in the 3rd quarter.

We also recovered the 2nd half kickoff, but were called for offsides. When we rekicked, they returned it to our 38 yard line and scored the go ahead TD.

We made mistake after mistake and turned the ball over like it was a greased pig.

We can't play like that. That game reminded me of the Fresno State game last year where we kept turning the ball over. If we don't have turnovers, we are a better team than WMU and we would have won the game. Three times in the WMU redzone in the 2nd half and zero points. That hurts. And WMU had 17 of their 31 points directly off of turnovers.
