Kent

Post by RobbyFalcon »

I was in Oxford for the MU-KSU game. Besides amazement at how much my nephew can eat, here are some thoughts.

Kent has a tough QB. He played smart for the most part and his improvised punt after a bad snap was a big play. He can run well and put it up deeeeeeeep to his main receiver, Pruden.

Their D had a banged up Miami very confused and off guard. KSU took Ryne Robinson out of the game which was huge.

KSU missed an XP and a chip shot field goal (Wow! that sounds familar). That gave MU a chance to tie with less than 2 minutes left.

Kokal, QB for Miami is wildy inconsistent. KSU's D dropped at least 2 easy interceptions. He is a good runner and if he figures out when to run, when to throw it away and when to throw downfield, he'll be OK. But you can say that about almost every QB.

With Murphy back, MU can run and the midget Jarvis for KSU is a good weapon for them.

Niether team can count on FG's of any distance and both looked quite beatable. Hopefully, BG can take 'em both down.

And oh, yea. TV time outs suck!!
Go Falcons!!

We were at the game also...... and we counted 4 easy interceptions that were dropped.

Robby is correct. The Kent QB is something else. I have serious concerns about next week when Kent comes rolling into BG.

The QB for Kent is Julian Edelman. He did throw for 244 yds along with a TD and INT. Looking at his previous games at Navy and home to Minnesota, td to int ratio not so good(2:5). Also in those games he threw for a TOTAL 242 yds and the fact that his longest completion was 17 yds against Navy gives me the impression that he is not a deep threat. However, his rushing yds look very impressive for a qb(total=175). So look for Kent to scramble a lot and throw many short rout passes.

We walked into Yager a few minutes after the game started. I was not happy to see the light crowd. The student side was VERY light and disappointing. Nearly 1/2 of the student side was filled in HS bands there to perform during Band Day.

The West stands were also light. Again very sad. It was beautiful here in SW Ohio yesterday.

I will say, if anyone gets a chance to come to Oxford to watch a game, I would like to hear your comments on the student stands and concessions. They are fantastic.

I saw our 2003 game down there before the renovations.

They have a fantastic set up, no question. Even then, the concessions blew ours away.

Regarding Mr. Edelman the KSU QB: He has a good arm. He threw a couple of impressive long passes. I don't think BG should count on him only throwing short. KSU has a deep threat receiver, Pruden, and a QB who can get it to him.

The Miami kids don't support their football or basketball teams. The alumni do, the kids don't, but 10,000 for a game on a beautiful day is weak. MU has a whole family-friendly pre-game area with food and a band and tents and activities for kids that seems to be successful but their sign proclaiming folks drinking beer in the parking lot will be prosecuted is a drag. I did see a few, very few, folks having a brew. So it seems MU is attracting the geezers, like me, but not the DMB listening undergrads.

The concessions are well-run at Yager. The lines are long but they move fast. They have two or three trailer type stands to compliment the permanant stadium facilities. The picnic tables by the concessions are a nice touch.

So it would seem to be a natural assumption that KSU will be sky-high after taking out a team that had whooped 'em good for the last 2 decades. BG better bring their best game.

Go Falcons!

Where did this guy come from? What happened to projected starter Michael Machen? Machen played some pro baseball and I believe he was suppossed to play at Alabama for Franchione but left when Dennis did. I was expecting good things out of the QB spot with Pruden receiving from Kent, just not from Edelman.

Anyone over that way or any Flashers out there to fill us in?

Machen got hurt in the 1st game of the season I believe, even if he gets better he likely wont get his job back!

Endelmann is a JUCO transfer... he was highly recruited by Boise State and Kent State.. Kent State probably told him he wouldn't sit and would play immediately...

YOu have to play smart defense and keep containment.

Miami right now has no heart... this team will either rebound huge or fold like a cardboard box from here on out...

While that might be true about basketball, it is not true about football. According to an Assist. AD (and football staff member) we have met over the years, Miami has good student support. If fact it is suppose to be one of the best in the country (based on percentage of the student body).

I asked my sister who goes to miami if she went to the game. Basically she told me she was going to go, but didn't. Thats nothing new. Of course i was nagging her a bit about the loss to kent. Anyways, If you look back over the recent past, Miami has had some suprisingly low turnouts for their games.
