Yeah, but it wasn't all that fun freshman year. It didn't seem like many people were enthusiastic. But I'm sure that had more to do with other issues than the fac that we weren't paid.FMBfan07 wrote:my freshman year (2002-03) we didnt get paid and their was 3 bands. Top Flight, Talon and Bird of Prey. And if I can remember right they were all a decent size. There was 3 the first year we paid but the third one was a "jazz" band sort of thing and quit small. But I think if we didnt get paid people would still go out for it. I'm going on my 5th year of a-band and i'd do it no matter what.

My brother is on the pit crew for a Nascar/Arca series driver and a few weeks ago they had a race at the Toledo Speedway. I heard a marching band as I was pulling into the lot, and I thought to myself "who is this half-a**ed crappy high school band?" I got out of the car, told my parents I needed to go check it out, and lo and behold, it was the UT marching band............they played before the race and did a horrible rendition of the Star-Spangled-Banner, however, there drumline was not too terribly great technically, they had much better writing for the line than BG has.......but that doesn't take much........either way, it was pretty bad. BG's band is definately better.
That is true. I wasnt in the marching band that fall and most of the people were so I didnt no that many people, if any, so i can remember not being to enthusiastic... but i have hard time remember a whole lot. I no i had Ryan Nowlin as my director and that was pretty cool. But over the past few years people seem to be more into the games and excited about them. Probably because of them winning more and stuff but it pretty fun when everyone is in to it...FliccGirl wrote:Yeah, but it wasn't all that fun freshman year. Yes, I believe there was a benefactor that demanded the money get used that way. They weren't even sure if it would last past that season.FliccGirl wrote:Starting the 2003-04 season, the A-band members are getting paid due to a donation specified as such, I believe. The payment takes the form of a "scholarship" applied to their bursar accounts, for (I think) around $9 a game.Rightupinthere wrote:Y'all get PAID for A-Band!?
[expletive]! It was a one credit hour course for me!
While that couple hundred came in handy, I don't think we should have gotten paid. I'm not a fan of paid-to-play.

Toilletto's fight song is literally the same as 'I've been working on the rail road. I belive half of the FMB actually played that instead of their fight song at last year's game during pregame. It was extremely entertaining.Rightupinthere wrote:What are you people talking about?
As far as the 'we know three notes' thing goes, what you're reading is exactly what the song sounds like. They play three notes, pause just long enough for us to yell you suck, then do it all over again two more times.
Yeah right girl!
