This is sad. I hate to hear any negative stories about BG. I am sure this is not the first occurence of something like this on a college campus. Could this have been prevented by university officials? Going forward this should be an example to all students that hazzing can not be tolerated. I gaurantee hockey players were not the first ones to ever do this. General students have taken part in this type of activity for years. This can't continue on any level. I hope the university educates everyone, not just atheletes.

Everyone RELAX!!!!!!!

Post by Iknowitallhockey »

Nothing happened, no one is guilty of anything....its totally a misunderstanding by the University. I know none of the players are at fault so all of you people talking trash better shut your mouths, and start using it for something useful like cheering for the undefeated BGSU hockey team right now! Trust me on this one, b/c I know it all of course. :D

A couple of points to ponder for you:

No one is saying they WON'T support the hockey program.

We're typing words into a computer/server, we're not actually using our mouths (that was a most insulting line in your rediculous diatribe).

Everyone is saying "IF they are guilty". Out of seven hockey players, it's very difficult to believe every player share the same level of guilt - if there is any. The word "if" is rather funny. It's non-definitive.

The nation media has the story now. Unfortunately, that doesn't allow for a true and proper assignment of guilt. Meaning: regardless of guilt, SOMEONE will have to pay a penalty in the name of public relations.

I'm going to make a presumption here: there are people on this board who have been BG hockey fans longer than you have been alive. What happens with this hockey team happens to the university, the students, the fans, and the alumnae. Regardless of guilt, there is a taint on the program.

Think about that.

I find this comment very insulting to the hockey program, especially after all the recent posting you have done on this forum. I was thrilled we had some new hockey fans on here. Thanks for the support.... :(

Falconfan1, I will look for you at the hockey game on Saturday!!

Yeah Im going to agree with FF here... That is a HUGE insult to the hockey team. They are far and away the most prestigeous profgram at the school. Maybe not right this second, but they have a freakin' national title. That measn they were the best team IN THE COUNTRY. And for year were a dominating force. The football team is just now getting to a consistantly good point, and the basketball team is struggling recently too, and was never at the level the hockey program was at, nor will it ever be I think its safe to say.

Bowling Green is a hockey town. Plain and simple. From little kids, to HS, to BGSU, its a hockey town and always will be.

I certainly don't know what BGSU33 meant by his comment, but perhaps there might be some truth in that thought, simply from the perspective of the level of attention the issue would be getting in the media. Good or bad, right or wrong, college hockey definitely does not get remotely near the coverage in the national media (or even local media for that matter) as men's basketball and football. Therefore it's probably reasonable to assume, a bone headed off the ice [or field/court] incident like this is also getting less attention, and thus level of public embarrassment to the U, than it might if it were basketball or football players involved.

Being a bball fan, I have to disagree. Sometime down the road they will get to the level the hockey team was once at. If the Red Sox can win the world series, the men's bball team can win the NCAA tourney! Just give it time :D

Abobt BGSU33's comment, I'm going to agree with FF too! Even being a basketball fan, that comment hurt to read because it seemed to be bashing a BG team. I do agree with brewer to some extent but you still just don't go saying that without a deeper explanation.

Touche Metz. I didnt meant that the Bball team cant get to that level, but When the Bball team is ranked in the top 5 teams for many years in a row, and wins national championships, then we can talk. IT will take quite a bit of time for that to happen though, and I hope Dan is still the coach when it happens.

Guys, please....RELAX....there's been a total misunderstanding. It was a "tongue-in-cheek" comment I made, really. I was making a crack about saying "at least it wasn't our football or basketball team." I guess I should have put a emoticon by it. Jeesh! I'm sorry to ruffle everyone's feathers on here, I was simply trying to crack a joke about a matter that wasn't that funny to begin with (the topic at hand). That was my fault.

The "attempt at a joke" I was trying to make was based on all the turmoil recently in men's hoops with players quitting and transferring, or with football players rumored about stealing a pizza delivery boys money or being suspended several games for underage drinking. I was making light of the matter, that's it. Again, this was by no means an attempted to slap the face of the hockey program or to cut on any BG program (except men's soccer ---- I'm joking!!!). Nor was it meant to offend those that it did. I apologize, I now see it was taken for something it wasn't meant to be.

This was clearly a case of where if it was spoken and not read, you would have understood my intentions. That was my mistake. I have gone back into that original post and simple inserted an emoticon with an insert to see this message and left the rest of the text as it was posted. ANYONE, and I mean, ANYONE who "knows" me knows without a single doubt, I support BG to the fullest! No ifs, ands, buts or maybes about it.

I did want to clear up what has become a misunderstanding due to my post. You can probably imagine my surprise when I saw some of the follow-up post after mine. I fully see it was taken the wrong way. We joke around on here with each other all the time, I guess I just missed on that attempt. I was only trying to add humor due to the nice "black eye" BGSU is sporting around due to this incident. That was exactly my intentions and what I meant. Those that were offended, hopefully you understand my apologize. I meant nothing more.

I am now just going to let this topic ride itself out without any more wise-cracks. 8)

To get back to the topic at hand....

Any update on the progress of the investigation? I'm sure Pooch is hard at work...preparing for the Lakers and trying to figureout who he'll have to replace...Looking for an update? I'm sure this is a situation of everybody in the picture is done till I figure out who did what.

See you all Saturday! FF give me a good recap of the Falcon's Friday night!

As shocking as the original news story was, I find that I'm equally frustrated and maddened as the college hockey community offers up opinions that include complete misstatements of the known facts. Specifically, on uscho, there's a post that states the picture was published in a paper, another one that sort of blames the coaching staff, and that they will be investigated, etc., etc.

I have complete confidence that everyone at BG, even including the players involved, will deal with this painful episode honestly, and a just resolution will evolve.

I am also confident that the players on the ice this weekend will dig a little deeper. This will be a great series against the Lakers.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

Thanks BGSU33! I appreciate the clarification. I really took your post the wrong way....as is quite obvious by now! The negative things that have recently happened to the men's basketball program and football programs DID NOT make CNN, ESPN, and the AP Wire. I live and breathe BG Hockey (as if THIS is news to anyone here....) and feel their (coaches, players and fans) pain more than you can know. Scott Paluch is the MOST upstanding person you would ever have the privilege to meet, as is his assistant coaches. They don't deserve the crap they have been put through because of this incident, but they are handling it in the way we all would expect them to. ...So, that is why I just about lost it when I read your original post. ...But...That is all cleared up now!! Again, thanks for letting us know how you really feel about BG Hockey and BG in general. You are a TRUE Falcon Fan and I hope to meet you someday!!! I am just THRILLED to see so much traffic on this forum recently (before "Picture-Gate"!!) Finding out that there are a LOT of hockey fans on AZZ is fantastic!!! Hopefully, AFTER this is all over, all of you will continue to post here!!

EVERYONE WHO CAN, MUST ATTEND THE GAMES THIS WEEKEND AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THIS TEAM AND THE COACHING STAFF!!!! I guarantee you won't be disappointed!!! The guys who play will give you a hellava effort both nights!! The Lakers are going down...TWICE!!!!

GO FALCONS!!
SWEEP THE LAKERS!!

So did you write in and set them straight? I only read a little of what was posted on there yesterday, and nothing as of today. I am sure we will be the "butt" of many taunts this year at away games, but that kind of goes with the territory of the incident, doesn't it? (ie; Do we HAVE to go to Omaha this year??? ) I am sure the team will deal with it though. Remember....What doesn't kill us, makes us stonger! Repeat several times!!
