I gotta 'dis Brantley

Post by Warthog »

Last week, Brantley got some props for his improved play. Well today showed us why he is in his fifth year and has hardly played. Opening drive of the game, third down inside the Kent 25, Barnes makes a rare nice pass right into Brantley's hands for what would have been a first down, but he dropped it.

Fourth quarter, facing third and 18 at about our own 40, Brantley runs a 15 yard out. Hey, he caught it this time, but you have got to know the situation and run your route to get the first down. (We did pick up the first down on the fourth down play which let to the next issue on the same drive.)

So, later in the same drive, its fourth down again. Sheehan is scrambling and finds a wide open Brantley. Brantley was passed the first down marker originally, but with the scramble was coming back to the ball. But once he catches it, he keeps going the wrong way, and goes out of bounds on his own, about 6 inches short of the first down. Idiot. :x

That dropped pass on our first drive hit him right in the numbers. That killed the drive and marked the first time this year we didn't score on the opening drive and it was all down hill after there.

I understand the frustration here, I really, really do. And, coming off of a loss of this magnitude I can't fault anyone for saying anything right now. But still, can we please not call out these kids individually in such a direct manner? The reality is that he dropped a pass, ran a route wrong, and made a poor decision after he caught the ball. We have much, much bigger problems in this program to focus on right now instead of picking on a few mental errors.

The guys wearing the headphones have made many, many more errors, and cumulatively, they are much more egregious.

the play in the 4th where he went out of bounds caused me to yell all sorts of inappropriate things in his general direction. The freaking 1st down marker was right in front of him, FALL FORWARD!!!!!GRRRRRRR!!!!! :x

This was discussed on a basketball thread, I think, or maybe it was here, hell, I don't know. ...

But this "don't call these kids out because they're kids and their parents might be reading," is, to put it nicely, stupid. They're adults. They're public figures. They're using my money to go to school for free. If I feel like calling out Brantley, Barnes, Turner, etc. etc. etc., I damn well will.

Carry on.

I don't either. But if Brandon is going to throw Corey under the bus for not stepping up, then I am gonna do the same with a player that really did make several mistakes.

So do I. I couldn't believe I heard that in the post game conference. CP was WIDE freakin open all day. You could see just how frustrated CP was coming off the field after every play.

He was talking about the teams lack of effort and 'playmakers' needing to step up thier play in a game like this. Then he goes and throws Corey's name out there. Way out of line.

I don't think it was a question directly related to Corey, but he mentioned something about guys needing to step up during one of his rambling answers. Corey's name was the only one that came up directly and should have been the very last name that he mentioned during that press conference.
