Now that I've somewhat recovered from the game, yes, I wanted to congratulate the band as well. Loads of energy and excitement and a very entertaining show.
I was wondering about the trumpet player. There are some members in the band with some solid chops, but wow. I thought, there's no way someone made that much of a jump in one season.
The FMB was the one positive thing that came out of today. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at homecoming.

Nope, I'm pretty sure that wasn't him. From what I heard, this artist was actually sponsored by Bob Sebo to come play with the FMB. The man has some serious HIGH! In the program he was listed as someone, Jr.bgbill wrote:I don't know, but my guess is this guy:

The trumpet soloist was a young man named Joey Pero. He attended Juliard school of music and won all sorts of DCI awards for his playing. He actually just finished touring with Maynard Ferguson right before he died. The guy is a phenominal trumpet player and it was an honor and a priveledge to play with him and learn from him.
Yeah right girl!

After a long, long day of FMB-related activities (4am 'till 1130pm, but no complaints!! 8) ), it is wonderful to come on here and see that we are very much appreciated by you guys. This evening after the game, we played at the Anthony Wayne High Band Festival which was fun. I'm glad the rain held off though, or at least until we had gotten back to the Music Building to unload the truck anyway. Our next show is "Rent," I do believe. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

FMB...that show was quite simply, AMAZING! You guys really turned it on yesterday and in the midst of a not so happy game, really electrified things a bit!
I got the opportunity to meet Mr. Pero myself, and not only is he an amazing musician, but a great person as well. He seemed SO excited to be playing with you all! And well he should have been!
Ryan Nowlin has once more proved his genius with the arranging, and the FMB has once more proved itself as quite possibly the best band around!
I actually kinda miss marching! lol. EUPHONIA FOREVER!

Yeah... fresh arrangements of some fantastic songs! A trumpet that just SCREAMED, but screamed with talent too, not simply playing 5 lines above the staff. And, and this is what I told everyone around me who WASN'T a band geek, you guys all looked like you were having a blast! That's what makes a great show, IMO, when it sounds and looks amazing AND effortless and fun at the same time!
I know the effort that goes into creating a great show like that, and know that it WASN'T effortless, but you guys just really, REALLY pulled this one off! I hope that show got recoreded w/ Mr. Pero on board, b/c that's a CD I NEED to have!
Played with Maynard, huh? Gee... never would have guessed that. lol

I was slightly relieved () that I missed the game, but now I'm super-disappointed that I missed the halftime show! I can't wait to see y'all at Homecoming.

Actually Ryan didn't do any arranging for this show.I think he did some editing on the first peice but the rest was the Doc's husband's editing. Thanks to one of our grad assistants (Bret Dodson) we were able to get a lot of the music from James Madison University for that show. And yes, talking to and hanging out with Joey was incredible. At one point I went over to talk to him down in Anthony wayne then all of a sudden the entire euph section was surrounding him, and all he wanted to know was if we were gonna go to Uptown with him last night. That was hilarious, maybe you had to be there or something. In any case I'm sure Mr. Marini never went out to the bar with his co-performers when he came a couple years ago.baritonebandgeek wrote:FMB...that show was quite simply, AMAZING! I've heard Pero play before when he was (still is?) with the Empire Statesmen of DCA. I remember them doing a West Side Story show a few years ago that featured a couple of soloists, and he was one of them.
Going back and comparing this to the last really standout show (Frontiers), I would have to say this one was more exciting and entertaining. Frontiers probably had this show beat technically in every way, and it was really impressive that a college band pulled it off, but this one was plain and simply more fun to watch. This is coming from someone who has always been into DCI and that style, which is more what was done with Frontiers.
Isn't it amazing what you can do with some stupid (sic) old school rock tunes
Any word on the show you will be performing at homecoming, or what the combined band piece will be?
