Why Burn the Reshirt on Sheehan?
In the first half, we had receivers (especially Corey Partridge) running wide open down the field in Kent's secondary quite often. We didn't get the ball to him or anyone else even once. I like Freddie's versatility, but I think he's our 3rd best option at QB. I really liked what I saw out of Sheehan, but I still think AT is our guy once he gets healthy.
Bringing in Sheahan was one of the better moves of Brandon's tenure, IMO. What good are having 2 RS QBs? We had 2 FR & 2 guys RS, no way they were ever all gonna play. Is it that much worse to have 3 FR & 1 guy RS?
Plain & Simple Sheahan is the only QB on this roster that can throw the ball. Barnes should be a RB/WR, and as far as I'm concerned Turner can get high & wander off.

I was livid when I saw they put Sheehan into the game. That is, I was livid until I saw our offense open up with him at the helm. As soon as he got into the game, Kent stopped loading the line of scrimmage and we were able to actually run the ball. I don't know if it was a defensive shift or a better move to deliver the handoff, but we've never run the ball as well this season with a RB as we did once Sheehan was in.
Not only that, but the kid has some feet too. I'll admit, he's not the best scrambler I've ever seen, but he had a couple designed runs that went for some distance.
Also, wasn't the plan to make FB a RB/WR/Whatever anyway? With Turner out and it being fairly clear that FB has no touch when it comes to middle-to-long range passing, why not get Sheehan in there? We need a decent backup and, as much as I like the kid, Freddie made it clear he's not the best fit.

I'm still confused by our passing game. From what I've seen out of all 3 QBs now, none of them have the ability to throw downfield. Sheehan dumped off to the RB almost every pass play. I don't know if that's who it's designed to go to or not, but if it is, please call better plays. When we're down by 21, why not try to score points instead of rushing the ball?
Our QBs yesteday only completed passes to guys that were standing still. I cannot remember once someone catching a pass in stride anywhere on the field. I know some of that is the play calling, but most of it is ineneptness of the QB.
And we need to throw it down the field more often just to loosen up the defense. It's pretty easy to play defense when all you run is QB dives and 5 yard outs.

I do rememeber sheahan completing a number of deep sideline routes yesterday. Those were throws that Freddie Barnes cannot make. I'd have to look back at some tape, if anyone has any, but it seemed to me that a LOT of Sheahan's short passes appeared to be designed screens or short outs, cannot throw downfield if there is nobody running downfield.
I agree with Warthog on the hitting guys in stride thing. All of our QBs really struggle with accuracy & hitting guys in stride. It seems the coaching staff realizes this and has been running a lot more routes where it's not even possible to hit a guy in stride...way too many curls and comebacks. Way too many 5 yard outs where the guy can do nothing but step out of bounds as he catches the ball.
The only time I remember seeing a guy get hit in stride was Marques Parks on a post pattern towards the end of the game...it might've been 6, but Parks, like most players and all the coaches had given up on the game, and decided to drop the ball.
Our QB situation is tenuous, but I'd like to see more of Sheahan. We used his RS, I want to see if he can potentially do the job. I just don't think Freddie has the physical tools...maybe Sheahan does?

AT is the man. We need him healthy and playing. I guess everyone has forgotten how we have won the two game we have won. Turner was throwing the ball exceptionally well in the 4th quarter and overtimes against Buffalo. He was throwing exceptionally well against FIU before getting hurt.
As for hitting receivers in stride. AT did that beautifully in our two wins. He hit the tight end in stride in the endzone for the tying TD against buffalo and the ball was perfect. If it was anywhere else it was incomplete. Same deal in overtime. Just perfect.
Corey's longest catch at FIU, Turner hit him over the shoulder in stride, dead on with a DB all over Corey. IF the ball is an inch anywhere else the DB knocks it away.
What I have seen is a maturation process for AT. He has grown and learned. He is coming of age as a QB and will only get better as his playing time continues.
We brought Tyler in to try and win the game. At 24-7 we will not win that game running the ball. We needed to pass and Freddie wasn't getting it done. Tyler was driving us for a TD and made a great scamble and throw to Brantley for the first down. I don't know what he was thinking but he ran out of bounds with out getting the first down. He only had one player to beat for the endzone, turn and give it a go? If he secures the first down that game gets really interesting, because I think we would have scored on that drive.
We need a passer and Tyler was it yesterday. If AT cant' go next week Tyler will be our passing QB. You may see him and Freddie used in the same way AT and Freddie have been used in the past.
My opinion now.... I think Freddie should be used as a RB/WR on occasion. And sometimes lined up as QB, but not as the normal QB. We need to throw the ball. We need to get the ball into the hands of our player makers in space and let them make plays.
Tyler can red shirt next year if needed. But right now we need him. We need a passer with AT out, Tyler is our passer. I thought he looked pretty good.
Go Falcons!
