I often wonder what would have happened if we promoted Tim Beckman instead?

Me too....

There aren't many head coaches in D1A that could lose all the games we lost with our talent level last year. There are even fewer that could go to 3OT with buffalo and lose by 35 to Kent at home. There might not be any outside of Golden, and he hasn't had a chance to set up shop yet.

Yeah, I think I was more disappointed last year with our talent and the losses. There was no reason for that. There's no reason for this year in that it is the result of some unproductive recruiting. But on the field, its not as frustrating because we don't have the team we had last year.

What exactly did GB say? There was nothing in the post-game quotes that I saw that said anything about CP.. was wondering where I can find it or what he said before I judge!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

It's in three or four of the 37 threads on this forum.

What confuses me is where is all this "offensive genious" we saw in the past? Ok, I except we may have to take a step back to move forward sometimes, but Brandon's forte is a creative offense and I just don't see it this year! If we are horrible at the other two phases of the game (defense and special teams) I can except that as long as we are still winging the football around and making teams score to beat us. Now, our offense is so vanilla that it stinks. I don't care how young the skill positions are, you can still open that offense up. What do you have to lose? Hell, could we be in any worse position (2-2) after four games if we had someone running the same offense Omar did the last two years? And don't tell me how this new offense has helped our young defense stay off the field so much and more fresh. It looked like the same old defense to me on Saturday. Plus, why not get the young guys on offense some experience in the playbook with the REAL offense you want to run down the road?

With OSU, Akron, CMU, Ohio, Miami and Toledo left on the schdule, Brandon better turn the offense lose. He is going to need every point he can get from here on in.

Well I have yet to find any thread on here that lists a direct quote or even a paraphrased guess of what Gregg Brandon said about Corey.

I heard it live. It wasn't in the game notes, for obvious reasons. Neither was the part where he said "I don't think they did anything. We couldn't get out of our own way,'' when asked to say what the team that beat his team by five TD's did right.

What he said was (to paraphrase) "We need more playmakers. Other than Freddie Barnes, this team doesn't have playmakers. Corey Partridge and other guys need to make plays."

Given the fact that his matador defensive backs showed little to no improvement from the time that he became the DC, I imagine that the only reason you all continue to press Tim Beckman's name has to do with loyalty or the fact that he coached here at one time too.

Tim Beckman took a demotion and a fairly healthy pay raise to go jump on the biggest bandwagon in college football and when it happened, I said "good riddance" and I have not changed my mind since. tOSU's DBs still get away with far too many pass interference calls at home and have not changed their "clutch and grab," mantra, in leiu of actual improved technique, since his arrival. Beckman, along with everyone else leftover from Urban were adequate position coaches that allowed their egos to grow a little too big for their talents and now are being exposed for it. Beckman's DBs are the weak spot of an otherwise vastly improving defense.

Hammb was correct in saying that Brandon's shortcomings were revealed at tOSU his first year. It wasn't necessarily his "genius" that won us the Purdue game either, as I recall three players making the plays of their lives towards the end of the game as well (Harris to Sharon, Cole as the punter).

Spart, I was wondering what you'd have to say about this. It really is a shame that Brandon has this nasty habit, but it's what he does.

He threw Rojas under the bus earlier this year. A true freshman in like his first or second game. He threw Omar under the bus after the Toledo game in '04. In fact, I've heard from a couple sources (of unconfirmed credibility) that those comments caused a rift between Brandon & Omar that was never repaired. Could that be why he left early? Might've played into it.

Either way, it's a habit that Brandon has, and I hope Corey realizes that he played a pretty good game Saturday. 95% of that team played with no heart, yet Corey was still running strong routes and getting open downfield even though he had to know there was almost no chance the ball would find him. That is heart, if you ask me.

If those three guys didn't make those plays it would have been Brandon's fault because the players were unable to execute. Also with Beckman, more than one person said "good riddance." A lot of people were saying he was horrible defensive coordinator now he would be a better head coach?

#1: A coach should never publicly rip his players, especially in college. These kids are not being paid to play the game, and they're doing the best that they have to work with.

#2: These are Gregg's players, he felt that they were the right players to put into this program, and if it's failing then he needs to own up, rather than make excuses and point fingers to players who are supposed to catch balls the QUARTERBACK throws. I guess Corey is Superman, and he can pass to himself to run threw everybody on the field.

#3: If a coach has nothing else to say but to blame other players and "we saw this coming", then he needs to be relieved of his duties. A coach takes just as much responsibility for his team's play as the players do. If he cannot offer up any solutions to the problem, then he's not doing his job. I'm tired of ineptness.

Scott,

Corey is a great example of busting your tail no matter what the circumstances. I must have counted 10 times when a play ended, Corey just threw his head back in frustration cuz he was as wide open as a 7-11 on a Friday night.

Please tell him to keep up the hard work cuz he, IMO, is a leader on this team. I love watching him play.

C ya Saturday.

And Corey must be our starting PR. Its no contest , even after recenlty coming off a minor knee injury he looked faster and better at cutting into lanes on the PR's that I saw. Yeah, and those FB passes to CP where no where near catchable. FB is clearly not our QB.
