What I want to see in a coach

Alright, as we have seen in other forums, along with extreme disappointment comes speculation on who might ameliorate and better the situation. And, since no one has yet proffered such a thread, allow me to be the first. What I want to see in another Head Football Coach at BGSU (sooner rather than later):

I want to see a man who has been a leader in the past. I want someone who was not simply a coordinator, but rather, someone who has shown that he is capable of successfully leading a TEAM, no matter which level that success may have come from. I don't want to see some sort of Turner Gill-type coach on the sidelines, either. We could go out tomorrow and get Bo Jackson to coach our football team and we would still suck, even though Bo Knows. I want someone who has been there and done that. I will make no bones about the fact that I want Gregg Brandon either demoted or gone - preferably tomorrow. I don't ever want to see a BGSU football team lose to Can't State ever again, and I don't ever want to see my team's coach be out-coached by someone in their first year again. There is simply no excuse for it - not even "rebuilding."

If anyone has any better ideas, please share them. But quite frankly, I'm done with wanting to see people promoted from coordinator without having any sort of real experience at leading an entire TEAM.

I definantly wouldnt complain about having him at the healm. His success with Mt. Union has been amazing.

Didn't realize/see this until after I clicked "submit," but Kehres was a GA coach here at BG in 1971 and 1972, and got his master's degree here. I honestly don't know if it is possible now for anyone to convince me that there is a better candidate out there. He is one of us and he is a winner! I realize that DIII is very different from DIA, but damn is a .915 winning % nearly impossible to argue with!

I don't mean to make it sound like anyone elses message board, but quite frankly, on any other message board this conversation would have happened two years ago. Gregg Brandon is a lame-duck as far as I'm concerned, and if he isn't with the rest of us, well, then we had better get ready for a few years of the s**t we saw Saturday. It ain't getting any better, folks.

Knowing how many offers from D1 programs he has already turned down, this is a fantasy. He's never even interviewed at any other school. I don't see him leaving Mt Union.

Once again, my opinion of Brandon has never been about wins or losses or 70 points a game. Anybody who cared to see it has seen our team get progressively worse over the past few years. It's plain as day on the field. Yesterday has been coming our way for a while now. This is why I, and a few others, have complained about little things like fundamentals, special teams, and play calling even through the winning.

As far as this coach -- I know nothing about him except he wins and that he often runs up the score mercilessly on far lesser opponents. I'll take anybody at this point, but I'm not optimistic about Brandon being gone before his contract expires. That's why I've been urging everybody who will listen to contact the AD's office and let your feelings be known. We cannot affect change by starting threads on message boards or complaining to our friends. Our only hope is to flood our new AD and his staff with our feelings about Gregg Brandon the head coach.

We are the most loyal fans BG has. We are the ones who pay the coaches' salaries. We are the ones who donate money to the Falcon Club and The Sebo Center. We are the ones who need to let our voices be heard.

It starts with us, people.

J4H & I share a brain on this one, although honestly I've been no fan of Brandon since his first season. He is not a leader, and never has been. He rode Urban's wave to a nice payday, I wish we could cut our losses before he drilled the program halfway to China. Unfortunately I think he'll be here for the remainder of his contract.

Game #4 of a clear rebuilding year and you are already naming potential replacements for Gregg Brandon? Two things about this...

1.You're insane. We would never fire a coach with 2 years left on his contract heading into what looks like two very promising years in 07 and 08

2.Where the f**k was this kind of outrage against Dan Dakich while we were losing game after game and quitting night after night last year?!

Will you guys PLEASE stop referring to this as a damn "rebuilding" year?

This year was an opportunity to rebuild. Instead, we dulled down the offense to an insane degree and our young guys are learning nothing. We're still gadgeting our way through inept special teams plays instead of teaching the young guys how to line up and punt a ball like a big boy. We run a QB draw on 4th and 7 instead of letting our freshman kicker come out and try a field goal. Going for it can be defended. Run a 10 yard in that was open all day long and teach the young offense something. Running ANOTHER designed QB run from an empty set is one of the 5 stupidest things I've ever seen. Running 2 QB sweeps in a row on 3rd and 4th and 7 inside the 10 against Buffalo was a clear #1.

The only thing we're rebuilding right now is the confidence of ashen programs like Buffalo and Kent State.
