I expect a little more class than yelling 'you suck'The Niz wrote:As far as the 'we know three notes' thing goes, what you're reading is exactly what the song sounds like. They play three notes, pause just long enough for us to yell you suck, then do it all over again two more times.

actually if i remember correctly, We did not play Toledo's fight song at the game last year. Practiced it during practice but then she cut it. I believe that is what we did. i could be wrong. The Niz wrote:Toilletto's fight song is literally the same as 'I've been working on the rail road. I belive half of the FMB actually played that instead of their fight song at last year's game during pregame. It was extremely entertaining.Rightupinthere wrote:What are you people talking about?

Ew. Back in my day, we blew quite a few bands off the field. Never did we stoop to such levels. I'm with Transfer.Strouse wrote:Quite a few band members do yell it though Niz. Bands are cut from similar cloth and we support our own regardless of school origins. One could be critical without being insulting.
I don't care if UT's fight song does sound like their band should "skip" instead of "march".

I didn't say I agreed with it. I just said that it happens. Personally if/when I joined in for the "You Suck" cheer, I always meant it towards the team, not the band.
I agree with on your point about bands being of similar nature. I have a great deal of respect for anyone who dons a band uniform and understands what that means (Yes that includes that team up north, and that so called Best Band down south). That's part of the reason I've never hesitated to go up to bandies from other schools and strike up a conversation. I may not like the color of the uniform, but I respect the work that goes into being able to wear it. If I was less than clear on that until now, I applogize.Rightupinthere wrote:Bands are cut from similar cloth and we support our own regardless of school origins. Yes to all of this. I have in the past talked to opposing band members from Ohio State, Toledo, WMU, Kent State, Ball State, Buffalo, Memphis, Miami, and who knows where else....... at the time of the games in question. Everyone is always courteous (well, courteous with good-natured ribbing), friendly, and encouraging, on both sides.goofyeuph wrote:I didn't say I agreed with it. I just said that it happens. The "you suck" thing is just a joke... it's not like it's an organized band cheer. (And the "we know three notes" song really is pretty bad.

Correct. The "reason" was that the UT band was going to be marching pregame, so they would play their own fight song. But the real reason was the disrespect with which quite a few FMB members/sections were playing and saluting. Very disheartening.FMBfan07 wrote:actually if i remember correctly, We did not play Toledo's fight song at the game last year. Practiced it during practice but then she cut it. I'm with Chomic on this one. I didn't say anywhere that I condone the behavior, especially in uniform. Band people are one of a kind and we're all a big family.goofyeuph wrote:I didn't say I agreed with it. I just said that it happens. not gonna lie...i know exactly what you're talking about. guess i'm a music loser too...bgmaggot00 wrote:BTW, the song in question is their "First Down Cheer." This is the one that, in solfege, goes "Do, ti, do, ley," with the rhythm of 1...3, 4, 1. Good. I'm a music loser, but I know some of you punks understand what I just wrote too, so I'm not alone. Toledo sucks though.
