Great show! I have next to no musical background, so the technicality of everything is generally lost on me, but I really appreciated the show! Musically it was great and it was very entertaining to see as well! You brought my energy level up for the second half, which the football team quickly washed away! Awesome job FMB!!!

I agree with you. The Bohemian show was a blast, and the Patriotic show was a tearjerker, but neither of them was as important as Frontiers. I remember last year explaining to the nugeyes about recent past shows, and they had trouble understanding why we were still so ga-ga over Frontiers.able1 wrote:I knew someone was going to take it like that when I posted itMy point is, I don't think you can say that there hasn't been a "standout" show since Frontiers. I saw the patriotic show, and yes, it was very good. To me, there are good shows (creative, well played, and have a little something to make them memorable) and then there are the standout shows that define a band. To me, the Frontiers show was one of those shows. People who marched it will talk about it for years to come and people who saw it won't soon forget about it either. The FMB has had alot of good shows in the past several years, but to me, that Frontiers show really stands out, as does the one from this weekend. Different people will certainly have different shows that have that kind of effect on them.
And now I'm really mad that I missed this show yesterday.

I'll admit it, I was skeptical when I heard about a brass show. But I was AMAZED! At the non-fieldhouse show, I enjoyed the soloist and the music got me moving. I really enjoyed halftime as well. The soloist was outstanding (I loved the Mario Brothers theme)....and kudos to Jason Lozer!! He shined just as bright as the other soloist. I love to see our own talent do so well.
I also love the addition of the "I Hear America Singing" fanfare. I still get chills from hearing the music, even just that fanfare. Seeing the video also gives me chills.....that's power.
Frontiers was innovative and so emotional. It was outstanding and is forever engrained in me. The crowd might not appreciate it as well as those of us in band, but it is still outstanding.
Several other shows have done well the past couple of years: the Bohemian Rhapsody show in 2004 and the hip-hop show from 2005....apparently having the band dance is cool.
Thanks to the FMB for never letting us down and for continually being the leader in marching bands!

that was before my time FliccGirl, so I don't know about that.FliccGirl wrote:Didn't it used to be, also, that if the team lost, the band marched out of the stadium on drum taps rather than dancing to the cadences? I think that may have been before my time, but I'm sure I remember hearing that that was the case.....Strouse wrote:For Beer Barrel, normally the Maggots (tubas for you non-band people) march around dancing...last night, we did not, we just went down to the field and played towards the band. The one thing that gets changed, as far as I know of, depending on the outcome of the game is Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba. If the team wins, we play it, if they don't win, we don't play it.

Actually, it was Fanfare for the Common Folk. Basically a hip-hop-eske remake of Fanfare for the Common Man. Just for clarification purposes anyway.FMBfan07 wrote:Fanfare for the Common Man, Land of Make Believe, Get it On.bgmaggot00 wrote:Sooo....
What'd you guys play? Song titles? Anyone?

i think i remember hearing about this tradition too....but I also dont remember. I can tell you with a certain amount of confidence that the reason we marched half-cadences/half-taps is because the drumline kinda wanted to have a tad bit of energy left for the remaining performances.

And Preston-- I don't blame you guys one bit! This would be the third gameday in a row leaving the FMB dead on their feet.... seems to be a trend this season.

Not to take away from anything Ryan Nowlin does or has done, but he only arranged the 1st song of this particular show. The other 2 were both borrowed from James Madison University and were arranged by Robert W. Smith.baritonebandgeek wrote:FMB...that show was quite simply, AMAZING! You guys really turned it on yesterday and in the midst of a not so happy game, really electrified things a bit!
I got the opportunity to meet Mr. Pero myself, and not only is he an amazing musician, but a great person as well. He seemed SO excited to be playing with you all! And well he should have been!
Ryan Nowlin has once more proved his genius with the arranging, and the FMB has once more proved itself as quite possibly the best band around!
I actually kinda miss marching! lol. EUPHONIA FOREVER!
All that said, this was by far the best show I've ever been a part of with the FMB, and this is my 5th year with the band. I kinda wish that we didn't have to move on to a new show yet and we could take this show with us to Ohio State.
