So the fact the Coach York coached the Nationsal Championship team at BGSU before he coached a National Championship team at BC means absolutely nothing. Evidently Jerry York went to BC with absolutely nothing from his days at BG. Do you really believe that? Before your postings, I would have thought players at BGSU wanted to win. Now according to you all they want to do is to sit around and whine about the coach.

I have a another quick point to state. You claim on your own post that the 6 players that quit weren't good anyways. Ok, if I agree with that point. That means that 6 of the 10 players brought in that year weren't good enough to play Div1 hockey. Isn't recruiting a major part of coaching?

It was Paluch's first class and he had little time to put it together. Regardless, he got some good recruits in that class, and no one can argue with the level of recruits that have come in since. So, what's your point?

Has anyone ever heard the phrase "too good to be true?"

I'm going to wade into this carefully. Regarding recruiting, I'm not convinced we are bring in even close to top flight talent. I admit I usually turn to the Central Scouting Bureau but eben other sources such as C Heisenburg aren't listing the BG guys very high. For this year's class, Kantola, McIlrath and Perkins are listed by Heisenber but only Kantola was given recognition by CSB as a "B" prospect. I'm not making this black and white but I like to see guys listed or rated somewhere or drafted that gives me some external support other than they are going to BG as to why I think they are good prospects. I compare this versus other schools and I'm seeing many more "top" guys going to other CCHA schools. Just an unbiased thought.

I am sorry what do you mean by they had little time to put the recruiting class together. They had a full season and a summer, the same as every other class in the NCAA. Not sure what you are talking about or why you are posting such a weak arguement for poor recruiting

You also have to realize that recruiting players sometimes goes on for several years (such as a couple of next year's recruits who the coach's have been in contact with for several years). Coming in as a new coach and putting a staff together as well as recruiting and building those recruiting relationships, etc., takes time. More time than his first year.

As for our previous coach, what do you think of his abilities to recruit? Was it bad, or was he a bad coach? The number of losing seasons at the end of his tenure here was a heck of a lot longer than you're giving Paluch.

Dublin: concerning Hansen, when I saw him on the list I was excited too, however someone on USCHO said that he wouldn't last a year. He was right. Hansen had no size to him whatsoever and was basically bounced around the ice like a pin ball. Small isn't always bad, but he didn't have what it takes to make up for his size, ala Emerson.
Also, given that it had been several years prior to Paluch since we regularly had players listed in the CSB, one or two each year is a definate improvement.

Strange but I rember that USCHO response - I think I challenged where his opinion came from and he said he saw Hanson play 2-3 times. Sadly he was write and the pinball analogy is pretty accurate.
