OSU/Iowa

Post by BGGrad01 »

In the preseason, this is the game many of the "experts" predicted OSU to drop. Iowa has not shown much against a pretty weak schedule thus far. Any thoughts on the game? I think Iowa will come out really fired up, but I think it will settle into a heavyweight fight in the second half. My heart says Iowa by 3, but my mind says OSU by 10 pulling away late. If OSU gets by this game, you can put them at #1 going into the Michigan game in permanent marker.

It would be nice for osu to get beat bad by Iowa, that way when we head to the Shoe next week, they'll still be feeling down about it!!

I have to agree with bgsuman here. I want OSU to absolutly dominate Iowa. I want them so full of themselves that they look right over little old BG and right on to Michigan State. If it's close or they lose, we are in big trouble because they will have a rough week of practice. We are in a good spot in their schedule to have a very good showing. I know this was in a thread earlier, but I thought I would bring it up here. According to the Dispatch yesterday OSU has decided to put down the turf they had reserved in Cygnet. So, we will have "home field" advantage for the game. That just makes me laugh...

I'm with It's the Journey here. Additionally, I believe that laying a massive, hideous egg against Kent State was all part of Gregg Brandon's master plan of becoming the first Ohio team to beat the Buck$ since, what? 1893 or something? Its brilliant, really.

its humorous to think BG has a chance wether OSU wins or loses with the way they have played all year and then to get raped by Kent state as I said they would???

Unfortunately for you Tressell doesnt let them win big. When he gets a lead he goes on game management mode and turns the agressiveness off 80%

Tressell doesnt just coach to win..he manages how he wins.

He knew they were going to beat Cincy pretty easily if they came out agressive as they did with texas so he managed how he was going to win with Cincy.

I know he came out agressive with NIU and i think part of that is their history of being a giant killer..Tressell didnt want to play around with them much. and of course he came out gunning @ texas.

The Penn state game was a combination of some sloppy weather and managing the win. I think he tried to go for a big TD early and Penn State made a good play on it so he ran the ball A LOT. He controlled the clock and won with Defense..once again managing how he won, not to show up the other teams.

against Iowa he will come out gunning , ranked opponent, hostile environment, but if Iowa proves to be as weak as they have looked then tressell will back off a bit. He does it so his players dont get big heads..he doesnt want them to think that they are the best. He would rather squeak by every game like in '02 then to win by 40 every week and become cocky pricks like Matt Leinart did.

Tressel did not intentionally come out flat against Cincy. The team came out flat and the coach got them fired up at half.

Tekekini, my only comment to you would be thank you captain obvious. We here in the MAC do watch college football and understand concepts like clock management. Just ask Akron, they won the MAC last year because of excellent clock management. We all know what Tressel does, he is very good at it. I have been watching him manage a game clock since he started as head coach at YSU. I am just saying a defeat at Iowa for OSU and he will not have to do anything to fire that team up. They will want to win just because they lost, end of story. I want him to have to fire them up.

Our staff could learn a lot about firing up a flat team. Maybe Tressel can share some secrets after the game in Columbus.

no, but he DID have less aggressive play calling. look at how many big plays they went for against NIU and Texas compared to Cincy and Penn State.

They threw one pass against Cincy for 25 + yards and they threw one against Penn State as well.

I admit when I'm wrong. The OSU D has been very impressive for replacing 9 of 11 players. I didn't think they could do it this quickly so give credit to Tressel and his staff.

When the season began, I thought this was one of the games OSU would lose. I still think Iowa can beat the Buck$ but it will be close. And I wouldn't be surprised one bit if OSU did pull it out. They have looked pretty impressive most of the season.

As far as BG/OSU? Forget about it. Not this year...no way. OSU has too much firepower and we have way too much youth. Even I can see that.

I heard from a friend of a friend that Jim Tressel kicked an old lady in a McDonald's the other day. I'm just sayin'.
