You know how much I hate that windbreaker (misnomer if there ever was one).
I talked to Mssr Rader about updating the look of the alumni band. There may be something in the works. Those orange jackets were outdated when they were first introduced (89 or 90).
Probably keep the orange jackets since I'm going to be in my football jersey.
Heeeeyyyyyyyyyyy. How about football jeresey with the person's graduation year on it with an FMB Patch on the right breast. Watchy'all think of that? No idea of the cost but I imagine that it would be worth the expense....and it would be worn more than once a year.

That is possibly the best idea I've ever seen you post. (No offense.

I think if we get our Mouthpiece by email we should be able to register online.
How about some technology people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some alumni are really pissed off, including me. We need more notice for the alumni with families. We have to take a stand!!!
And where's my hard copy in the mail?

Priorities
Let's put aside our "rah rah" attitude and face reality that alumni band is whittling away year after year with less alums making the trip back to perform at BG. Is anyone interested in making changes to make alumni band more attractive to both older alumni and more recent grads?
First, the perception created by the band office is that alumni band is a hassle - first, as of one week ago, one could find NOTHING online (BGSU official websites) regarding alumni band aside from the new consitution. When the newsletter is not mailed three weeks prior to the event, how is one to plan? If you live in BG, it's an easy feat. However, what if you live in Texas? What about grads with children?
Kudos to the university for creating more attractions at homecoming for alumni - the tents, celebrations, etc. As an alum, I was invited to all of these parties weeks ago (weeks before I received alumni band info via e-mail). I want to see fellow alumni that aren't marching. Let's think OUTSIDE the box... (or inside the box for OSU, which is where the BG alum gave 1/4 million dollars to their band) What about having alumni band at a game OTHER than homecoming? I feel like I'm penalized because I elected to be part of the alumni band.
Speaking of being penalized... why are we charged ADMISSION to play our instruments, make special arrangements, (re)learn music and perform for the crowd (many of whom got in free or for discounted rates)??? Is that any way to treat alumni who have already paid for their education and many of whom are giving back to BGSU in numerous other ways, including marching in alumni band?
Some thoughts of someone who absolutely LOVED band and is disappointed in how disorganized alumni band is becoming. How high is this on the priority list of those "in charge"?

Mark and I 'applied' for the alumni band board. Mind you, I was on it for I think three years before I moved to Louisiana... neither of us go a post... it seems that "Kelly's Kids" aren't really wanted.
I wonder why?
I think the above post is GREAT! Why not have Alumni band at a game that doesn't draw a lot of crowd? It think that would be good at getting more people in.
To tell the truth I didn't realize there were 'tents' outside for us to eat and drink at until last year... isn't that sad??? I'd like to go back to the Rec Center or the Education building or the Communications building for their events, but yes, I have, and always will choose Alumni band.
It does have to be better organized. Yes, we can all look up and see when homecoming is, but how do we know there's an alumni band? It's not official in my handbook until I get the registration form in the mail.
the end.

First off, welcome bufforocks.
Keep alumni band with homecoming. It's tradition. There is a noticable difference in attitude towards the alumni now-a-days. It breaks my heart, really.
Homecoming was more than just marching years ago. There used to be a rather riteous party called BUFFO which was a social soiree between current band members and alumni. It was nice up until it went "dry". Then not a lot of alumni participated as much.
I'm not too worried about tailgating this year. With the pre-game ritual out by the stadium, that will be easier than having out at the field house.
I believe there could be either an evening gathering off campus or a Sunday affair at the Toledo Zoo or something. There needs to be more activities to make the trip "worth it."
I did want to be on the band board, but as ohiogal explained, there was a serious drive for "younger blood." You can draw your own conclusions about what that meant.
Relations between alumni and the band office have been strained for years now. It may very well get worse now that Bonnie has left. With that said, however, I really think Dr. Hayward would be a very good person with whom to brainstorm about additional activities with the current band. I really want to get to know these kids better.....because we share so much.
