BGSU Football Traditions!

Post by Buckeyeskickbuttocks »

Hi Folks. I am visiting here from BuckeyePlanet.com. At Buckeyeplanet we do game previews for each game. Part of the preview is "traditions" if you guys (gals) could help by posting your pre-game, game time and post-game traditions that would be great.

Thanks in advance. Good luck with the rest of your season.

GO BUCKS!

I would say it has been a tradition for many to drink before during and after each game.

Yeah. I've always wondered what y'all do down there that you consider actual traditions. I mean I've heard of some of them like the burning couches and starting riots and stuff after big wins, but do you really consider that tradition or just a good night out on the town? What do you truly consider red and silver Ohio State traditions?

ANyway, here are a couple of ours:

After scores some fans throw Tootsie Roll candies up in the air to the crowd. (Tootsies are orange and brown the chosen colors of The Bowling Green Falcons, borrowed by the Cleveland Browns' Paul Brown, I think he spent time at your school as well, who held his first trainning camp at B.G.S.U.)

Also, the Beer Barrell Polka is traditionally played after the game ala Iowa's polka In Heaven There Is No Beer which you might hear tonight if you listen closely.

In heaven there is no beer. That's why we drink it here...

It would be terrific if I don't hear the aformentioned Polka you descirbed tonight...

tough crowd around here...

Seems as though you guys are bitter... what is it with the hatred in the MAC division towards Ohio State?

Thanks for the tootsie roll tradition... I appreciate it. I encourage you to all stop by BuckeyePlanet this week, read the preview and engage in some FRIENDLY banter back-n-forth.

If anyone else is willing to share traditions it would be greatly appreciated...

Im off to make sure my sofa is secure...

incase you were being serious.. our traditions are vast, skull session, hineygate, script ohio, bells ringing on 3rd down, team prayer, team singing Carmen Ohio (after game) O-H...I-O chant, Dotting the "I" Brutus the Buckeye, etc... and everyone wearing their scarlet and gray! ;-)

Anyway, my favorite tradition comes after wins. The team gathers near the band. They sing the alma mater and then slam dance to Ay Ziggy Zoomba three times.

It gives me goose bumps.

Everyone does the bell at third down, every school has some sort of tailgating, a lot of teams pray, Ohio University also does the OH-IO stuff, most teams wear their team colors, script ohio is stolen from Michigan.
