my thoughts exactly.... John L. Smith teams have a history of choking and falling apart in the face adversity. He is one of the worst ideas you could come up with as a new head coach.
Smith's admitted he has no idea what's wrong with his current team or why they lost. Why would we want him to come to BG if he's has no clue how to fix his current team?
Smith turns 58 on November 15th. Typically, guys who get fired from BCS schools at that age try to line up a nice coordinator or high level assistant job at another big school. At his age, I imagine the last thing he'd want to do is head up a program that has to struggle to land kids against the big 10's bottom feeders.
That would entail a lot of grief and offer little real chance at landing another BCS head coaching job...
I just found out today he slapped himself in the face. Count me in the not interested category. And his admission to having no idea what he is doing makes me weary as well. I was aware of neither.
What this team needs for its next coach is an up and comer like Urban Meyer or someone who fell out of grace at a top school and who wants back in. Frank Solich without the toppings.
I disagree. I think this program needs a BG alum that wants to make a career out of BG football. I thought maybe Stud was the guy, but they playcalling the last year+ makes me back off that a bit.

Sorry to say, but we need a Tom Amstutz.
I don't suppose Brandon is planning on staying here after 2008? I would highly doubt we would force him out of here without a losing season in his tenure, but no other schools are currently going after him.
