QB Jason Washington Stats & Images

Post by BGSU33 »

Here are some stats links for QB Jason Washington from LBCC. I found a few pictures of him as well but I can't figure out how to post them here. I'll send them to Grant and see if he can post them here with his stats.

So, is this kid in the mix? Can he bump Van Johnson as the deuce?

What are the implications of this kid signing with us?

I think there was a comment on the old board from Coach Brandon that this kid would start the fall as the back-up to Omar. Based solely on his numbers (<50% completions and <1-1 TD to INT ratio), I've got to believe that Van and Anthony Turner have a shot at taking the back-up job. Since his team did finish 2-8, I have to think that he didn't have alot of talent surrounding him, either. We'll see over the next couple weeks how things shake out. Hopefully, he'll get some good playing time at the scrimmage in 2 weeks and those of us than can go will report on him.

No matter what happens we cannot let Anthony Turner use his Redshirt this season. In the unfortunate event that Omar gets hurt we must toss the towel on this season to save that redshirt. It is important for the program taht we get the most out of Anthony down the road, and not waste him this season.

Hammb, I think that's the key point, and I think that's the role Washington plays. If we can get Turner RS, then he can get two years after Omar goes. Its hard to tell from the JC stats how good he actually is, so I guess we have to trust our guys. And hope Omar stays healthy.

After looking at the stats, I have to believe he didn't have much of a OL nor a running game. At least I hope that's the case. From watching the Spring game, I have to believe that Van could be better. But, he is insurance that Turner gets another year. For that matter, we have quite a few HS QB's. Cole could even take a few snaps.

I agree AT must be RS...unless the kid is really that good. I mean, what I saw in the Big 33 game was a faster J5. Everyone is glowing about Turner....and rightfully so. Freshman can play huge roles on teams their first years. Cole Magner and Devon Parks come to mind. IF Omar gets hurt (and I pray he doesn't!), what if Turner is ready? Just some thoughts...I remember a certain highly touted QB that played as a true freshman in 1982 and went on to become the most prolific passer in BG history with over 10k yards.

"Toss the towel on this season"?....no way. There are Sr's and Jr's on this team that have busted their butts for a few years and that is not an option.
I agree it is important for the long run of the program to RS Turner...but so is continued winning. We cannot afford to have a poor season now. The momentum needs to keep rolling. IMO, it is also important that the kids that have helped build this great foundation the last few years keep enjoying the success.

REDSHIRT REDSHIRT REDSHIRT! How many times have we said.. "what if J5 had one more year??" It's just not worth it to waste that extra year; we need to look to the future.

This season is the future. We need to continue to move forward and not take two steps back.

The "what if J5 had one more year?" brings up another question. If J5 had one more year, would Omar Jacobs have come to BG? Just a thought.

I don't think there's a "throw in the towel" mentality necessary as there is a need to gauge where things are. If Omar goes down on the first snap of the Okla. game, and AT has been tearing it up in practice, do you go with him as your QB? Or if Omar is only going to be out 1 or 2 games, do you keep him redshirted? If BG is undefeated in mid-November and Omar goes down, and AT is showing in practice that he is ready and can be the man to lead the team through the last few weeks of the season, do you take the RS off and send him out there? Or do you send Johnson or Washington who would be your number two by lack of a redshirt alone out, even if you don't think they're you're #2, and have them try to beat Toledo and a possible MACC game?

I think we all take hindsight and hope that they don't put AT in for a game while Omar comes back from a minor injury, then send him back to the bench because they think they have no other options. But unless one of the above scenarios happens, I think there's enough depth everywhere that he doesn't have to see the field this year if they don't want him to, unlike Josh who seemed to be the guy closest to the coach when they needed an emergency HB that day....

Guys, don't worry about QB. Van Johnson is capable of stepping in and running the offense. He did a ver good job in the spring game. Urbie had him playing Josh Cribbs on the scout team his freshman year because he has the same mix of speed and arm.

If something happens to Omar, we'll be OK even if Turner redshirts (as he should)
