Were you one of those fans who complained they couldn't see when they sat behind the student section?
Actually Drew I was kicked out of a game by the police for standing in the student section and some whiny ass behind me couldn't see so she went and got the cops to tell us to sit. i refused and i was dragged out.
Thanks for your expert analysis though. Again.... I like BG, i am pulling for BG, but i'm just asking all of you to grow up just an inch or two.
Living in Virginia....so this is what elevation looks like =)
Well Kaleena, a few of us here do more than just wear Orange and Brown. We Bleed It!!
I do bleed the orange and brown if you are trying to say I don't. I am just referring to I will being wearing the O&B Saturday unlike those S&G people.
I think we need to channel all this energy into something productive. Kinda sad if this is bringing up such rage, honestly.
And this "rage" you speak of is going towards something productive, I'm going to the game and I am cheering our team to victory. If you'd like I could just be one of those people who quietly go to the game, sit down, clap at the occasional play and leave.
Grow up and act like you went to a school I'm proud to call home. This crap is embarassing.
How is this embarresing? I could be arrested for driving around with guns claiming I was going to a gun fight. I could be burning couches and starting riots. I could be accussed of sexual assaulting someone. I could be doing far more things that would be an embarresment to this school/community. Posting on a board that the students at a school should wear the school colors I don't think is much of anything. And I currently go to this school and proud of it.
You are posting on this board that you are "really pissed off" at people who like OSU and BGSU. God forbid.
I'm not mad about anything you do to get ready for a game, but it disgusts me that this pisses you off sooooooo much that some people at BG like Ohio State.
You will never understand my point, so just drop it. Go paint your face, scare all the kids, have a good time and pull for BG, because we're going to need it.
For those of you who think i'm an ass, just know, before it was "illegal" i was part of the group that stood behind the visitors sideline and shouted at the opposing team for 60 minutes straight. Then BGSU admin decided to be pusses and tell us we couldn't stand there. It was a great time and i've never had more fun at a game or been more proud.
I miss the old BGSU, before we sold out to be a "major" football program. Thanks Paul, hope New Mexico is grand.

I said before I could deal with people unfortunantly liking OSU, but if you attend or attended BGSU you think you could have some courtesy to at least support your own school for one game. I honostly doubt it would kill you to supprt BG, it's not like OSU will have enough people there anyways.

You know, you need to lay off of Kaleena. I think most of us true Falcon fans who are students on campus are getting a bit tired of these OSU people (or any other school for that matter) who sell out on BGSU via their rooting interests. And the reason they do it is the worst part of all, because the Buckeyes field a better team win-loss wise. That's a terrible reason to root against your school. I can't tell you how many of these people rip on our teams here at BGSU because "we suck". I didn't know we sucked at sports here. The way these people talk, you'd think we go 2-10 every year.
I have had this debate with countless OSU fans who have graduated or are attending MAC schools (UT, BG, UA, and KSU). All of them say they have childhood allegiances and they are not going to end that over where they chose to get their education.
My argument is simply I cannot see how anyone could not make their alma mater #1. It doesn't make sense to me to put some childhood team you have no connection to above the school where you're spending 4+ years and getting a degree.
That said, it is all their decision. I don't think for a second that any of us could change these people's minds, so why get so riled up over it? It annoys me, and I cannot understand it, but it's time we just get over it. Unless BG somehow makes the jump to a BCS conference and starts to compete for New Year's day Bowl games on a regular basis, it will never change. Seems like a waste of time to worry about to me.
Can we PLEASE learn to differentiate between an educational institution and a football program? Seriously. Where you go to school depends on scholarships, location, majors offered, limitations, cost, programs, clubs, etc. Football is about entertainment. Making a wise decision about what school is best for you, doesn't automatically marry you to the football program.
If you want to be a BG fan…good for you…congratulations. What I don't understand, is the pretentious attitude that some of you get, feeling superior to those who make an, admittedly more mainstream decision. OSU has a lot of the bandwagoners that are inherent with success. Most Buckeyes, however, are as (if not more) passionate about their football.
Why would a student of (insert school here) be a fan of Ohio State?
1. Roots - Many Ohioans have parents who are alumni. Many have grown up following the Buckeyes on TV, cheering them on with their families and friends. My dad and I have had season tickets and gone to games, since I was a child. That was a special bond between him and I. Maybe it's nostalgia taking over, but I have entirely too many great and painful memories of past Saturdays in the Shoe. No educational institution could ever sway that allegiance...and the fact that I didn't Ohio State is irrelevant. I NEVER attended a game of my Alma Mater. I couldn't care less.
2. Entertainment value/Talent - Since we've established that football is entertainment, let's ask another question. Is it possible that a football fan would find it more entertaining to watch superior athletes at Ohio State and Texas play each other, than to see Bowling Green take on Temple or Buffalo? It's just a different level of play and it's exciting.
3. Exposure - It's a heck of a lot easier to watch a nationally televised Buckeye game than to try to listen to a static-filled AM station to decipher who is winning in the Bowling Green vs. South East Central Alaska Tech A&M State University at Anchorage game. It's easier to jump on the internet and find out what star player OSU is recruiting and which quarterback is fighting for a starting spot in spring practice. If you want in-depth Buckeye news...it's there. If you want in-depth Bowling Green news...Congratulations, you can start the club!
4. Tradition - Try to sell your football program to a casual football fan, with no allegiance. "Here at Bowling Green, you can watch the falcons at John A. Doe Stadium. The same place where Josh Harris threw a miracle touchdown to beat Central Michigan one Thursday night, as the spirit squad threw tootsie rolls to the crowd. After the game we went out and painted a rock in celebration!". Ohio State has built traditions for decades, the stadium is awe inspiring, the band gives you chills and the atmosphere is unlike anything you can experience in the football world.
Congratulations on being Bowling Green fans. I'm dead serious when I say it takes awesome effort and school spirit. As a Browns, Reds and Cavs fan, I can understand the challenge of loyalty in hard situations. I admire it. Just because that's your conviction and your passion, though, doesn't make it someone else's obligation. It's hard to blame anyone for wanting to be a Buckeye fan...it's an awesome experience.
By the way...I, like MOST Ohio State fans, have never burnt a couch, dumpster, car, Michigan fan's dog, etc. I have never been out in Columbus at 3 AM with a car load of assault rifles, a bullet-proof vest and a bottle of Gray-Goose. I have never given our quarterback cash in a handshake. I've never been pepper-sprayed or tutored a star running back in basic Algebra. These "over-the-top" people exist in every subset of American society and are usually proportionate to population. By virtue of having millions of fans, Ohio State has a larger number of complete "whack jobs". Stereotyping anyone wearing a scarlet and gray shirt makes you look ignorant.
I guess some of us are strange, but to me (and I think a lot of others on this site) the school we chose for our undergrad work became far more than just an educational institution. We met lots of friends there. We had a lot of experiences there. For 4 years we were not just students of BGSU, but we were members of the BGSU community. Part of that community pride was attending sporting events (at least for me and a lot of my friends). It was something to rally around, and it was something to enjoy doing. We tailgated & then we went to the games. I was friends with a lot of the football players and acquaintances with some others. I developed this connection with the community & I never even lived on campus.
So, to me, this is not about separating an educational institution and an entertainment medium. For me it is about supporting the team that was part of my community. Now I'm no longer a student at BG, but I still feel a real attachment to the school that far outweighs any entertainment that I get out of watching a football game.
Maybe this is where we differ. OSU clearly brings in superior athletes for most of their sports programs, and funds infinitely more of those sports programs as well. As a grad school OSU is among the best in the land, and it holds it's own as an undergrad school as well. However, one thing that OSU can NEVER compete with, IMO, is the sense of community that you get at a smaller school like BG. There are a great deal of our students/alumni that don't buy into that, and continue rooting for whoever they want, and go back to their regular lives when they leave campus, and that's fine, but I think they're missing out on one of the best parts of our university. I, and many on this site, identify myself as a BG alum and do so with pride. I cannot fathom possibly rooting for another football team over the school that brought me in for four years, educated me, and allowed me to go out and get a job that let's me talk sports on the internet!
When you narrow it down to simply an educational institution -vs- an entertainment medium, you are oversimplifying the issue, because to many of us BG is not just an educational institution, it was/is our family!

I appreciate the points you bring up OilerBuck. But please note, BG does have the "Falcon Sports Radio Network". It consists of 7 stations, three of which are FM. Stations are in Findlay, Lima, Toledo, Defiance, Cleveland, Celina, and Fremont. There was a Columbus affiliate, but not sure what happened to it.
Also, scout.com has the same information about recruits for BG as it does for OSU. And we have people that attend practices and report back about who looks good/bad and how things are going. Not all that different than OSU.
