Congratulations on being Bowling Green fans. I'm dead serious when I say it takes awesome effort and school spirit. ... I admire it.
I understand I may not be one of the people you were responding to, but I feel I need to make this point. I fully understand that people who go here may have very deep and very personal sentimental reasons to cheer for other teams. I have no problem with that. I'm (and I know this is the wrong thing to say in a discussion with an OSU fan) a lifelong Michigan fan. I was born in Detroit and grew up watching the games with my family. I can certainly understand your point. BUT, when I chose to come to BG, I became a Falcon and nobody takes precedence over them. (And, call me crazy, but I don't see OSU fans taking it too lightly if a kid waltzes around OSU's campus in Miami gear and says they're his favorite and he wants them to beat OSU.)

My main concern is that if a person chooses this University, they are choosing to let their education be represented by the diploma granted to them by this institution. It would be difficult to argue against the point that athletics programs are one of the national (and international) faces of said University. By choosing to root against the national/international face of your own University, you're basically asking to have the reputation of your school and your diploma de-valued. This makes little sense to me. But hey, that's just logic speaking, I know it has no place in a football discussion.

I also appreciate the fact that you admittedly give respect to us for being BG fans. That's not something we hear often out of fans of that particular institution when they come over to this board. The one thing I will say though, is that it's hard to believe a word you say about respect when you make statements like, "...who is winning in the Bowling Green vs. South East Central Alaska Tech A&M State University at Anchorage game." I understand we've played some obscure teams (Southeast Missouri State, for example), but the fact of the matter is, we also don't shy away from playing teams like Pitt, Purdue, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, OSU, Michigan and more, and we have a history of hanging close or pulling upsets. I think that deserves a lot more respect than we're getting. And even when we are playing an obscure school, as Warthog pointed out, we have a quality radio network to carry our games.

I'll admit people on here have gotten a little crazy with the anti-OSU stuff, by you have to understand that full-time OSU fans who post respectfully around here are usually in the minority and we're used to being dissed and dismissed by pompous meatheads. Yeah, the reception's rough, but if you weed out the kids who are just out to look big and bad, you'll see there are quite a few posters on here who are more than willing to respectfully talk football with respectful OSU fans.

There are a great deal of our students/alumni that don't buy into that, and continue rooting for whoever they want, and go back to their regular lives when they leave campus, and that's fine, but I think they're missing out on one of the best parts of our university. I, and many on this site, identify myself as a BG alum and do so with pride. I cannot fathom possibly rooting for another football team over the school that brought me in for four years, educated me, and allowed me to go out and get a job that let's me talk sports on the internet!
This spoke to me. I'm with you 100 percent.

WTPG 1230 -- progressive talk in Columbus -- has a two year deal with BGSU. It's a very good signal. Not only is it stronger than our old Columbus station, it's much stronger than WBNS 1460, the Ohio State flagship.

I sent a thank you E-mail to the program director of 1230 last Saturday after the OU game for carrying BG football. I haven't received a response but just wanted them to know that it's appreciated.

It's easy for me inside my mostly empty head:

My grandpa was from KY but he made be OSU fan at a young age. I was an OSU fan throughoutt HS and the Army. I grew up 15 miles from Oxford so I always followed Miami.

I got out of the Army went to BG and now I'm a BG fan. BG is number 1 by far.

BG is my favorite team
OSU is my favorite rule ignoring, cheating football factory.

If an outlaw program is gonna win a BCS game, I'd rather it be the grotesque, outlaw, rule-breaking team from Ohio than the grotesque, outlaw rule-breaking team from TX, FLA, CA or elsewhere.

Go Falcons!!

I thought it was still active. I was looking at this weeks Media Notes, but it only listed the seven stations I mentioned. Wonder why the Columbus station was left out? :?

Robby,

Sounds like me. Growing up in Ohio in the 70's and 80's, there was only one school from Ohio on TV and Radio. There was no ESPN to give the smaller schools air time. My grandfather played hoops at OSU in the 1930's and he influenced me big time. I rooted for OSU at an early age because that's all I saw and heard. I got sucked into the myth that "Well, you're from Ohio so you need to root for OSU". Tell that to all the Michigan and Notre Dame fans from Ohio.

But then a funny thing happened around age 12, in 1980. I started asking questions about BGSU with my parents. I started looking for BG scores in the paper and during games. My dad started telling me stories about Bernie Casey, Doyt Perry, Harry Anderson, Butch Komives, Nate Thurmond, Jimmy Darrow and others. When my older sister Brenda started at BG in 1983, mom and dad would take us up to visit and go to football and hockey games. I fell in love with BGSU and the Falcon teams, logo and town. I enrolled at BGSU in 1986 and graduated in 1990. I never stopped going back. I went to almost every home football game when I was there...yes, the Moe Ankney era. For the love of Doyt Perry....
When the No Franchise Loyalty league allowed that scumbag Modell to move my beloved Browns, I turned my back on the NFL and bought season tickets for BGSU in 1996. I will buy season tickets until I leave God's earth no matter what...4 season tix every year.

My mom still roots for OSU somewhat. I'm sure that had more to do with Grandpa's influence on her for many more years than me. However, my dad does not. He is all BGSU and wants no part of the school by the Olentangy.

GO FALCONS!!!! SHOCK DA WORLD!

They signed the deal with WTPG very close to the start of the season, well after the media guide had been designed.

As you probably know, a lot of the media notes are cut and pasted from week to week. The fact that it isn't changed? Laziness or lack of staff or just an honest oversight. Those would be my guesses.
