How do you tell a second or third string QB/RB/SE to take a dive? How do you tell place kicker to miss it on purpose? You don't. I think Tressel did play conservative after the first and third quarter. Zwick came in late in the second and at the start of the fourth. He was then replaced late in the fourth.

We have to question our defense when it gives up almost 250 yds. in total offense to a guy that only plays two quarters. That is the greater problem than whether OSU went for it on 4 and 1.

This post is worthless. Who cares that they went for it. Tressel was just taking more time off of the clock. He wasn't concerned with getting first downs in that situation, he was being considerate and not just taking more and more points.

Chill out. This is what i hate to read on this board. There is no need for us BG people to be looking for something to be mad about. We played a damn fine game against the best team in this nation by far. Let's try to calm down and just enjoy a strong sign of things to come.

Go Falcons.

I don't think anyone is saying you have to tell a kicker to miss it on purpose, but to go for it on 4th and 6 in the 4th quarter at the 37 with a huge lead is a little shady. Maybe not usually, but for all the stuff I've heard said about "Tressel has class. He doesn't try to run it up on in-state schools," I sure didn't see that tonight.
In all honesty, now that the emotion has worn off, I'm not necessarily saying he's completely classless, but I think the crap that was thrown around about how Tressel was classy because he wouldn't do it, I'm a little frustrated.

He played 3+ quarters. Zwick came in for one series in the second, and Smith didn't come out until after the long TD with 12 min left in the fourth. As for the 250 yards, take out the 60 yard bomb and it's 190 in 3 quarters. As a whole, I don't think ANYTHING can be taken away from the effort the defense gave in this situation today.

A 12 yard pass on 4th and 6 at the 37 isn't going for a first down? I understand you think people are being a little unreasonable, but I think you're fighting an uphill battle on this one.

unreasonable....

this is the only thing unreasonable on this post. Again, these were not their starters and this was not an attempt to run it up on little BG. We seriously need to focus on the good positive game we had here and quit whining. Calling one of the best coaches in the country the above statement is ridiculous and embarassing to hear out of a BG fan.

Brutal...Tressel trying to make the score look bigger than it was. This was a 21-7 game and he throws a bomb with 10 minutes to go in the game and follows that up with going for it on fourth down twice. My heart bleeds for them that Zwick had to play...we have been playing with our starting QB at not even close to 100% all year. See how far OSU would go with Zwick in there all the time against Iowa and the likes. We ran it down their throats. This was a 14-21 point game...that's it.

Amen.

35-7 isn't running up the score. Running out clock instead of going for points is common.

Calm Down, people. If it wasn't Ohio State, you wouldn't be having a hissy fit like that.

I know I'm about to get jumped on for saying this but did any of you happen to notice who the quarterbacks were on those calls? The answer(s) would be Justin Zwick and Rob Shoenhoft. Tressel was simply trying to give his backups some experience in pressure situations, it had nothing to do with running up the score. Any objective observer could tell you that those two calls had nothing to do with a lack of class and more to do with looking down the road. Your guys manned up and played well at the end of the game when they very well could have packed it in and gone home. It is especially impressive considering how young they are. Good luck with the rest of the year.

This thread sucks, but, jeez.

We aren't little.

And, please, stop giving fellatio to Jim Tressel.

His job is hard to screw up.

Tressel has as much class as any coach in the country. How easy it is to forget that OSU punted the ball away on 4th & 5 deep in our territory when we accepted a penalty in the first half and that he put his backup QB in during the final three minutes of the first half when they were dominating the scoreboard.

Smith had a boo boo. They put Zwick. We scored in the second half he was right back in.

"Deep"?? It was 4th and 5 at the BG 40, and it was a decline penalty to bring up 4th down.
