It will never happen. you do not lose the last game of the year then get rewarded for it by being put into a national title game..Warthog wrote:I will disagree and say that it is entirely possible. The SEC is gonna cannibilize itself and no team comes out of there with less than two losses. WVU and Loiusville play each other guaranteeing that one will lose. And let's just say that the winner stubs their toe somewhere else along the way. Missiouri isn't goning undefeated, nor is Rutgers. So that leaves USC, OSU, and MI as your only undefeateds late in November. And the only credible one loss team is Texas.tekekini wrote:NOT TO mention that there is not a possibility of a OSU UM rematch for the national titleMr. Frieda wrote:I hope you're talking about the regular season game metaphorically because there is no possibility of the two of them playing in the national championship both unbeaten.BGGrad01 wrote: Basically, I think the national title game will end up being OSU vs. Michigan (if they're both still unbeaten).
Nice thought though.
Let's say that OSU beats Michigan in a close, tight game that could go either way. And ND beats USC that weekend as well. So now OSU is left undefeated and in the champioship game. And your one loss teams are Texas (which OSU beat on the road already, so why a rematch now?), Michigan (which lost to OSU in a great game on the road), ND (who Michigan smoked so how can you pick them ahead of MI), and USC (who just lost to the team that lost to the team that is undefeated).
Given those choices, I think the voters could put MI #2. And the computers certainly wouldn't ding MI for losing to # 1. Anything is possible with the goofy BCS, so in no way would I discount the possibility of OSU and Michigan playing for the national title.
In my opinion, in your scenario ND or Texas would move to #2 If USC's only loss is to ND that is going to be the big quality win they would need to get back in it. they lsot early then won out where UM would be winning early then lose late. in college football the later you lose the more screwed you are. It is just the way it is.
It is very very extremely unlikely that a non conference champion would play in a title game when there would be many many other conference champions deserving of the spot with 1 loss = to UM's loss (based on your given scenario)
In no way do you deserve to play for a national title if you can't even win your own conference which OSU or UM would not do given that 1 loss
This is all assuming your scenario played out..with Florida and the rest of that conference beating themselves up, WVA losing to louisville and or rutgers etc. leaving UM, Texas, USC with 1 loss teams.
Why a rematch with texas???simple they would be conference champions. UM 2nd place in big ten
