During the game and the pregame, the Ohio State band seemed louder. Volume is something I appreciated sitting near the top row of the C deck.

One possible factor: I was essentially behind the band, in the corner.

Still, I kinda wish we were as loud as the other band in big settings like Ohio Stadium and Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Still, it was fun to have our band there. I did like the way they spelled out bgsu before the game.

(Do we not have enough members for a capital "B" and "G"?)

I don't klnow about any of you, but I was extremely relieved when we got our charts for pregame this year and it said bgsu and not BG. The BG just wasn't exciting enough, it always seemed lack luster. bgsu all the way!

You mean Guelph, and most of us here are familiar with the preseason tune up with a Canadian team.

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. It used to be different sets for each homegame. Small case bgsu for the first game. Falcons for the second game. "BG" for homecoming. Finally there was the falcon head - which was always a bitch to pull off.

Uff. In 2003 we did the falcon head all season. It is a pain. One person out of the diagonal and all of a sudden the falcon has an Adam's apple, or a tumor, or something.

Mark were you in the band the year we spelled 'Doyt" during pre-game? Or the year we spelled 5/3 when Fifth Third bank helped finance our uniforms? Or remember the Halloween show when we all ran a scatter, formed the word 'Boo', and turned around and we all had rubber masks on? Weird memories...I tend to only remember the pain of pregame and not much beyond that LOL.

Falcons and the falcon head have been my two favorite one that I've seen. The head must have been a tough one, but we're also a tough band...

Yeah, I was there for all of that. Doyt and Boo were done in '88. 5/3 was in 90 - if memory serves.

I remember BOO! because I was Baker 11 that year. We had to put our busbies in the orange draw-string book store bag right there on the field. Then put on whatever masks we had stuffed up in there. That was the show that our drum major got eaten.

I also remember doyt because DLP was standing right in front of me. I remember a couple of us shouting, "Thank you coach!" He did a half turn of his head and nodded. That formation always stuck with me for some reason.

I remember 'boo'; I was in Able rank for that one.... up front. Don't remember what I wore though.

And doyt... don't remember the 5/3?

werid how thing work... my mom was sitting in the endzone under the scorebooard and said that she could hear BGs band better then OSU band. SO must just be where u are in the stadium...
I was almost in the endzone opposite the FMB and could definitely hear the FMB much better than the OSUMB. After watching a decent chunk of the game on tape, the FMB is once again louder, which could just be because of where the microphones were.

By the way, the FMB sounded great at the Skull Session and throughout the game. I really liked how the FMB would only play when we were on offense, therefore allowing the OSUMB to play when they were on offense. Unfortunately they did not reciprocate this favor, but the FMB was still louder in my opinion.

And Lozer, I could actually hear the woodwinds this weekend, during the whole game. Granted it could be because I marched flute so I listen for them more so, but I could still hear them across the stadium. And if you are going for sheer volume, take 40 piccolos in the high octave...there's your loudness. I don't like ABBs and that's one of the reasons I came to BG is because they allow woodwinds in their marching band. I think the FMB has a wider range of musical selections and sounds better (one might say a more symphonic sound) because of woodwinds. If we did not want good music to be played, then we could just put on a CD of some crappy music and march to it.

Sorry for the rant, but there's no fury like that of a woodwind scorned.

Forgive me is this is something I should know, but what exactly is a busby?

Falcons and the falcon head have been my two favorite one that I've seen. The head must have been a tough one, but we're also a tough band...

For pregame in '02 we did a similar version of bgSU that we do currently, where it all appeared lowercase. In '03 it was the Falcon head, in '04 it was the combination of the number 80 into the BG, and '05 it was just the BG. of course, now we have the bgSU, which when I first saw it, I immediately thought that the idea was taken from what we did in '02.

personally, I'm a fan of the bgsu from 2002. why? well for a few reasons. because the drumline was actually apart of the drill and not off in the little block we're always in as of recent years and at least to me, it looked alot cleaner/visually appealing to have the ENTIRE group in the form. oh well. that's just me!
oh yeah, FYI, the cymbals in 2002 were in the "tail" of the 'g' that year....as if you cared, but i just felt like sharing.

i'm also a fan of the Falcon head in pregame....but only when it's done correctly. if it's not, then I agree with Emily....the Falcon looks as if he has some form of medical condition, of which I'm sure Emily is learning about at MUO....which is unfortunately attached to that school up the road....;-)

boo yah.

I'm not ashamed to admit that much of what you all are talking about is nothing more than band jargon to me, but...

...the Falcon head formation at OSU in 2003 was far and away the coolest thing I have ever seen. Ever.

Yeah, but the Fliccs poor execution at Ohio State (?, I know it was on a trip, maybe Cinci) that killed it for me. All I think of is that poor Falcon's throat tumor.
