As someone who started tailgating at 6:00 PM the night before, I can easily see how someone could forget bits & pieces of that dayFalconfreak90 wrote:How can anyone forget that day? Intense, fun and a great victory with Gameday in da house. We need to get them back some day.
That said, I have a pretty good recollection of most of that day...a great day to be a BG fan.

I remember that day...not all of it good. Maybe my feelings of dread are because rehearsal/meeting time was something like 6:30am. Standing around at College Game wasn't terribly fun either. Plus it was cold and wet. Although the game itself was fantastic. It was really cool feeling the ground shake as we lined up for Pre-game (I was in the band that day). Plus kicking the s**t out of NIU who was "all high and mighty" coming into The Doyt was fantastic. Ok, so on second thought, maybe I just didn't like Gameday that morning. The game was great!

The cool thing is, that game NIU vs BG in 2003 was what really got me interested in Mid-American Conference Football. I had been following the basketball teams from the MAC for years since the conference tournament was moved to the Q in 2000, but watching gameday from BG, and then seeing the game really perked my interest. What is weird is that I was rooting for NIU that day, because I wanted to see a mid-major team crack the BCS, and when BG won, all chance of that happening went out the window. My dad also lost about a $700 driving job taking the MAC on field advertising signage (which is stored underneath Doyt Perry Stadium) from BG to Dekalb for the MAC Championship Game, since the game would be held in BG.
Now obviously, that was before I really began looking at colleges to attend. It's a shame that I hadn't made my college choice by then, because to partake in something like that 2003 NIU game would have been awesome. All I know is now that I'm here, I'm as rabid a supporter of Falcon football as you'll find. GO FALCONS!!

As an alumni who rarely gets back to Ohio, let alone to BG, it was a chance to relive a lot of memories and see how the Doyt had changed since I was last there. Even better, since we didn't have cable, I watched it at a local sports bar where the owner let us keep one set on that game all day. There were five of us watching the game - four NIU alumni and me. They started out cocky and left crocked.

I remember my son having a flag football game early that morning. The espn crew came over a filmed some of it. Then later when watching Gameday, they showed the footage as a buffer going into a commercial. So now my son can say highlights of him playing football were on ESPN. How many kids can do that?

Probably not as many as can say they were in a Nelly video...Warthog wrote:How many kids can do that?

Pretty cool story for your kid, though!
