Scrimmage tonight

So I was wondering if anyone went to the scrimmage and if so how did the team look? I am starting to get anxious for bball season to begin. This is my favorite time of year(behind March Madness of course) with football having all of its great matchups and college basketball beginning.

I was there for the first half or so. It wasn't really a full scale scrimmage, as they stopped play every few seconds to do some coaching, thus got a little tedious watching at times.
I thought Marschal, Sullivan, and Miller stood out, while Samarco was his normal. Pope is a BIG man, not fat, but BIG, and could certainly be a force in the future. Coach kept yelling at him especially, among others, to quit watching the ball and screen someone. Dusan was slow a few times getting up and down the court and heard about it. It soulds like we would like to get up and down the court on exchange of posession, as opposed to walking it up the court as we often did last year.

It is funny, becuase it always looks that way early, and yet when the season reaches the mid-point, we're slow again.

factman, how did Sims, Larson, and Bland look? Will they help this year?

I saw a team that looks like it should be more athletic than last year. Problems I see are possibly us leading the the nation in personal fouls again if DD keeps coaching the the players in this defensive style he keeps doing. Will now a bit more after seeing the exhibition game with Capital.

Bland impressed me. Larson looks long and lanky, and did nothing impressive really. Sims had a couple nice passes but was VERY inconsistent handling the ball.

Sullivan & Miller were the two new faces who impressed me the most. Miller looks like he could be a player.

Sullivan and Miller are INTENSE players. Miller looks like a block of granite. Once Polk gets some seasoning, he is going to be near impossible to stop in the paint because of his size.

Coach made a smart move by giving shirts to the students in attendance. Kept asking them if they were coming back for the games. He made some good points.

Coach has to do everything possible to get in the good graces of the alumni and fans. Giving shirts out is good and all but improvement on the court and a lot more wins will go a lot further. Looking forward to the season. Nice to hear we have some good players coming up.

Hamblet looked good too. After reading my post I wanted to edit & add his name with Miller & Sullivan, but I was too lazy

There is definitely some talent on this team, but I still don't think we're going to be very good. Our offensive scheme is still terrible. I'm not sure I lke Dan's motivational tactic of constantly berating last year's players and yelling at Dusan to speak English. We'll see how the season unfolds.

It should be noted that our offense still looks lost. They basically played a half of basketball in the scrimmage and the score was like 16-24 or something like that. There were a lot of stoppages for coaching, but they were stopping the clock for a lot of that as well.

The team has talent, but they're very much a work in progress.

It would make sense that the offense would look lost. It was the first day that the coaches can put the offense and defense in. You can't take anything out of what the offense and defense looked like in the first day of practice. It takes the new kids a little bit to understand where they are supposed to be in different situations, and if coach has put in a faster paced offense, as one might have suggested, then the returning players have some new things to learn also. Just give the season some time. Who knows what is going to happen, and the quick rush to judement by some is not good. Let's see how they do in their scrimmages after they have had some time to work on things in practice. Nothing is going to look pretty on the first day.

Houston, very good point about the offense or defense. That eas the first day of practice. I dont know how anyone in there right mind would expect a team to be crisp on either side of the ball on the first day. But you have been thru the wars and most people that complain have neither played or coached they just like to complain.

I got there late.. too many beers the Friday.
The veterans looked good. Samarco, Lefeld, Guerin, Moton and Marchall. However Clements and Dusan need both need work.

Miller looked real good but there was no mention of this numbers???
Polk, Sullivan and Larson need to move more and get open.

Hamblet was ok but not as good as everyone said.

Bland and Sims looked bad. Someone needs to tell them that their “off” hand doesn’t mean to keep it “off” the ball.

Only the start of the year but they look more like a team than last year.

I said the team was a work in progress. I didn't say that they would never get better. I didn't say I expected them to be super crisp and was disappointed. I said that they have talent (about all we can ask for at this point), and I said that we still look lost on offense (which we do).

As for complaining, etc, I really don't think you have to be a former player or coach to know that we've been shitty the past 3 years.
