FIU/Miam brawl

Post by Tricky_Falcon »

I just caught the tail end of it but looks like FIU and the Canes got in a huge brawl. Score is 14-0 Miami. Not sure what caused the fight.

ESPN just confirmed that you're right.

Just saw the highlight... bush move by the FIU guy to come in kicking, but Miami showed why they're pros.

"Players from both sides appeared to be swinging helmets, and one injured FIU player came onto the field swinging a crutch at Miami players."

Awesome.

So Coker's not winning and his players are still out of control. Great combination there.

What was worse for me was the display of "unity" by the Canes after the fight by jumping up and down with their helmets in the air as if a winner could come from such an ugly scene. That was just disgraceful. Just screamed out that Miami was proud of being huge thugs.

Because I don't feel like starting another thread to acknowledge thuggery, did anyone see what Limas Sweed pulled? He gets tied up with a defender, both holding each other, and throws at least a few punches. Got flagged for it, but that's it. Clean punches should be ejections.

What a joke. There should be a long list of players not playing anymore for each side for that crap.

OMG! Is that really the Canes analyst saying he wanted to go down on the field and take part in the fight? And that they should continue it outside the tunnel after the game? That is disgraceful. He should never be in front of a microphone again.

Coker has suspended at least 8 players for their roles in the fight. Incidentally, the two most blatant offenders from the Miami side, the guy swinging the helmet and the guy stomping on player's legs, were not initially ejected, but they're on Coker's list.

Remember that S. Carolina and Clemson willingly pulled themselves from bowl consideration after their fight (which was a fraction of this mess) a few years ago. It will be interesting to see Miami's reaction on that scale. (And how long some of these suspensions actually last.)

That guy is an IDIOT.

I'm sure Florida International will get a huge black eye out of this. Miami (Florida) will become the dignified victim; Florida International will become the undiciplined upstart that doesn't know its place. Look for calls from media columnists for Florida International to go back to I-AA or Division II. Blah, blah, blah.

The best thing FIU can do is circulate video of that Miami color commentator. What. An. IDIOT.

Also lost in all of this: It looks like the Panthers were giving them a game. Down just 14-0 halfway through the third? To go in 0-6 and fight like that shows heart.

I think FIU will get better. They may push us next year at the Doyt.

Jesus H. Christ. Those two idiots should have been fired on the spot. Big words out of idiots beating up on ummm.... Florida International? Also how about those idiot fans after the Cans "won" the fight? Pretty proud of your unranked team acting like thugs? Wow. As if I didn't hate Miami enough before.

As I stated after our game with FIU, I feel they are a bunch of punks. Yes Miami has the history and I can't stand the camoflauge, and the swagger and stuff, but I can sort of say "I saw this one coming."

Watching FIU play earlier they were cocky, and annoying even after giving up big plays to Freddie they would jaw with him back to the huddle. . .

That's one of the most shameful displays of idiocy I've EVER seen (and I'm from Columbus! ). The player who was swinging his helmet (Miami #26), the guy who was stomping on people (Miami #19) and McDuffie (FIU #24) all need to be suspended for a while. I wouldn't be upset if it were the rest of the season. There is NO reason to pull some crap like this. All of these players represented their schools very poorly and should be outright ashamed of themselves.

Not to mention the announcers. The color commentator is an absolute moron. As an announcer it is your job to be professional, not encourage this kind of crap.

I was disappointed yesterday when I heard people cheering for a fight at one point during the BG v EMU game, but the fans for this game were worse by far. I would hate to have been there for that. That many ignorant people in one place would have been too much to handle.

edited to add:
"You've got to back up each other," said Miami quarterback Kyle Wright. "You're not just going to sit out there and let guys get beat up."
I understand wanting to have your teammates' backs, but there's no reason for a scene like this.
