UAH

Post by dannyk »

I was not able to attend but saw that we pulled a 5-5 tie. UAH had lost to Colorado College and Michigan both by 8-1 scores, so it looks like we have some work to do.

But none the less we are 1-0-1, a decent start.

Spratt gave up 3 goals on 4 shots in the first 3:29. Their other two goals came within a couple minutes midway through the third.

BG outshot UAH 45-28, including 5-0 in OT. Obviously there's work to do, but I think the numbers show BG dominating MOST of the game, but UAH taking advantage of lapses in bunches.

Spratt was like swiss cheese in the goal today. That kid has a crazy consistency problem, sometimes he's amazing and other's its like he couldn't stop a beach ball. Hopefully Pooch adresses his consistency problem and gets him on track to where he should be.

Aside from the two quick goals in the last period I was impressed with Neville. He showed pretty good poise for being a freshman. The only thing that bugged me about him was the way he comes waaaaaaay out of the goal to size up the opposition.

Not quite the outcome I hoped for, but lately I'm getting used to that with BG athletics. It's never pretty, but we usually come out on top. Although this game ended in a tie, I'd have to say I'm very impressed with the way we fought back from such a deficit to where we ended the game. The team never gave up, even with tired legs at the end of the game, they were still fighting it out and showing a lot of heart.

I have to agree about Neville. He showed some good stuff out there, but he has some real positioning problems. I can't imagine it'll be too difficult to work on, but he'll have to make some strides.

I also love the fight in our freshmen. I saw a number of times where Kantola, McIlrath and Page were battling hard for the puck against the boards, sometimes even taking on 2 or 3 UAH kids to hold onto the puck.

Overall, I'd say I'm disappointed it wasn't a W, but really glad it wasn't a L. We've got work to do, but that's what the exhibition and OOC games are good for, they give us a chance to see what needs to be done before the CCHA schedule starts.

I also have to add that I'm not very pleased with one of the police officers who keeps an eye on the fans from the corner next to the student section. Without any warnings, without any real reason, he yelled at me "Stop pounding on the glass or you're DONE!"

Apparently I was the only one in the whole arena banging on the glass? Apparently I've got such Herculean strength that I'm going to damage the glass that is made to stand up to a full-speed collision between two 200lb+ people?

I'm not usually one to criticize an officer of any sort (even security guards, for that matter), but I find it ridiculous that I would be singled out and yelled at in such a manner for something so minor.

On top of that, if any of you know me, you'll know that I'm one of the more level-headed (or at least polite) fans out there, so why me?

I guess it's no big deal and I should let it go, but if I wasn't sending a stream of obscenities towards the players/officials (I wasn't), making obscene gestures (I wasn't), throwing things onto the ice (I wasn't) or trying to climb the glass (I wasn't), then what's the big deal? I've never been to a hockey game in my life where you weren't allowed to bang on the glass.

Oh well. Exciting game, so it was worth it.

Well that is a unreal weekend for the team. (sarcasim). This was a weekend that was suppossed to get BG two easy wins. All I can say is that it was embarrassing. Its funny, I told all you about the inconsistant goaltending before the season began and most of you disagreed. Now all of a sudden people are relating him to swiss cheese. Weird.
Whats wrong, I thought now that Pooch has all his own players there was going to be a miracle and BG would be good again. Get rid of Pooch, why can't anyone see that he is the biggest problem that this team has to overcome. Good Start Pooch!!!!! Whats your exucse this time. Wait let me guess, the quotes from the game are going to state something like "There are no guaruntees, the boys played hard but sometimes it just doesn't work out." Don't the fans of BG get sick of hearing that same crap for the last 4 years.

No, but I'll tell you what, I'm getting pretty damn sick of hearing the same crap from you all the time. Piss off and let us think what we want. You couldn't hack it, get over it.

Spratt's first goal deflected off of one of our defender's skates, the second goal was just a great shot to the upper right corner and the third caromed off the right post, I believe, although I didn't get a great look at it. I can't fault him for the first two, very few goalies would have, could have stopped them. I can't comment on the third one because I couldn't see it well enough.

We had a couple of defensive lapses this afternoon that cost us but, as was stated earlier, we didn't give up as we've been known to do in the past, we fought back and gained a tie.

There's no such thing as an "easy" win. If you think think there is such a thing as a garunteed easy win, you haven't seen enough college hockey. There are games that should be won, and there are games that teams are not expected to win. There are no garuntees when it comes to hockey. Especially college hockey.

haven't you heard, pdt? We're all just misinformed idiots who know nothing about college hockey and he's a mysterious insider who refuses to reveal himself but knows everything there is to know, all the way to the top of this vast conspiracy to ruin BG hockey, and it all started when Paluch kicked his dog.

You guys crack me up. Please just say that if this season continues in the direction that it is going, someone will question the man running the show. There are only so many excuses that can be made and I have heard hundreds in the last four years. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

Have faith in Spratt, everything I heard from my peeps in the USHL and his stats on paper show that he is a pretty good netminder.

After watching him play against scUM last year in Ann Arbor I can't say much for him. He's gonna have to string several of those brilliant games in a row for me to have any real confidence in him.
