I really want to know who's doing the counting at the Doyt lately. I would have guessed around 17-18K yesterday and then saw the "official" attendance. No freakin way....

Sure there were some empty seats but if the Doyt holds about 24K, there were not 10K empty seats there yesterday.

GO FALCONS!!! BEAT CMU!!

I'm starting to wonder if people are spreading out because they can... the 24K capacity comes from how the seats are marked, but if people are taking up 1 1/2 "seats", it can look pretty full, but not come close to the number. This issue seems to be too consistent to be a mere counting error, unfortunately.

I was sold a ticket in row three of section 14. None of the bleachers there had numbers on them and you better believe my big butt was filling 1 1/2 seats. But I kept looking back so I could move up a little higher and it looked pretty darn full to me.

BTW, after every sunny game I have to get new retinas to replace the burned out ones. As a child I was told not to look into the sun but if I wanted to see FALCON-VISION! I was forced to.

Go BG!

do they count the band members for attendance?? A few friends and I were talking about that a little bit ago and if they don't count the band and did, last year we might of made the 15,000. That is another 225 people or so the could count. I just was wondering if they do or don't count the band. We don't actually walk threw where they count. We go to the game and techinally are paying (through fees) so we should be counted.
Go Falcons!

Miami(OH) game is it for me this year... although the International Bowl would be on a new vacation cycle....

And actually, I may still have a day for a trip to Detroit, but we'll see how the pieces fall for that one.

The band members do count provided the number is verified as for any student. Meaning, the roster of the band would be submitted to the athletic department.

The alumni band was counted by their purchased tickets.

It counts.

That won't be a problem this year as the Falcons play three home games in September, including the opener against Wisconsin at Cleveland Brown Stadium, which counts as a home contest for Bowling Green, Campbell said. The school is anticipating 30,000-40,000 for the Badgers.
I agree that it is supposed to count. But hypothecally speaking, lets say it won't. I would guarantee that we would come out with promotions out the wazoo and practically give away tickets to ensure that the Miami attendance would get us to an average of 15,000.

What good is the marketing department? Maybe they are raising some "sponsorship" money, but they are certainly NOT helping attendance.Ten to fifteen years ago, when we had a marketing department of ONE, our attendance was better than is is today, and some years it was significantly better. We had signs for our front yards, that are still around to some extent, and the guy went door to door drumming up sales. It seems to have worked better than our current system withthree or four plus some students in the marketing department. Maybe we would be better off using their salary's to buy tickets and give them away!
Heck, I remember having over 10,000 numerous times in the 1960's when we only had 8,000 students, in the "old" stadium!

Ten to fifteen years ago there were considerably less options as far as watching football on a Saturday afternoon, let alone other entertainment options that are now available.

What used to be a community and school pride event has turned in to an entertainment $ event. Tickets used to be much more affordable on a walk up basis, now that they are a bit more pricey the marketing department must justify with things like a kid's zone and offer a better variety among the concession stands to keep people happy and to convince them this is a good way to spend their entertainment dollar.

Look at it this way, 15 years ago when I was 12 and attending all the BGSU sporting events I could it cost $4 to get in, the kid's zone was located behind the North bleachers where we would play tackle football, and concessions variety meant there were unburned hot dogs to go along with the generally charred variety offered by the local Jaycees working the booth. If you asked me if I wanted a Panera I would have looked at you like you were talking Russian.
