BG's thin D-line Depth.......

Post by Falconboy »

I don't know if anybody has noticed yet but we're down to maybe 1 actuall DT' on our d-line. Everyone else that is now playing that postion is a converted DE. With Williams out , Davis done , and Young dinged , we have very little depth right now and this after our coaches deciced it would be wonderfull idea to take a studly DE in Brandon Mack and move him over to OT.

With Mack at 280+ now, he'd make an excellent back up or starter right now as it looks at DT with all these injuries. Mack is nowwhere close to starting at an OT position anytime soon, but he's wasting there while he could be helping us greatly on the d-line where it desperately needs help.

*OK , rant over*

FB,
It's a RARE day that I tend to agree with you, but I commented to several guys during the game that we were playing with THIRD STRING DT's for much of the game. The radio guys said that Williams had an MCL problem, and we know that Young was "bruised" a bit during the OSU game....he was on the field briefly, but left early in the 1st Q.

As a result, we got a great deal of pass rush from our ends but little push from the middle...OTOH, Eastern got little in the rushing game, so Minturn,Michael Ream and whoever else played most of the game at DT must've been doing something right.

It just might make sense to see if Mack COULD be switched back to DT, at least until some of the other guys heal a bit. But again, the radio guys were talking about how badly hobbled Drew Nystrom was too...at least we have some extra Off. linemen, though rather inexperienced.

BTW,
Did anyone else notice how MANY guys we had in orange warmup suits on the sidelines? Seems as if the team has really taken a hit on the injury front, far more than the brief article after the OSU game...of course, a lot of this is cumulative, but we've lost a LOT of players to injury.

I talked briefly to Sean O'Drobinak after the game and he's got an MCL problem too, which is why he's playing somewhat hobbled. :(
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

I thought Ream and Minturn did pretty well yesterday. They're young (I know, who isn't on this roster?? ).

Ream is fast becoming one of my fave D players.
