MACC and why not make the following change

Post by MACMAN »

Drop some OCC games and then take the top two teams in each side of the MAC and and have one play two to earn the right to move on the MACC or expand that though one level further...give #1 a bye week, have two play 3 the winer then plays #1 to earn the right to advance on to the MACC.
I like the OCC games plenty, so dont get me wrong on this, but I love the energy that builds up and surounds playoffs, far more. then add in the three bowls we are tied into and that would be some real excitment.

So if this year Miami and us were undefeated in the MAC, and ended up 1-2 in the East, and Toledo came out of the west, our final 4 games would be Miami, Toledo, Miami, Toledo. No thanks.

Plus, I hate the idea of taking away an OOC game. Those games are incredibly exciting to me, and I love to see how we stack up against different teams across the country. Even OOC games against *gasp* 1-AA teams have merit. They give us a chance to build some confidence, get a win in the books, and maybe experiment with some different plays and build some depth by playing the youngins. Maybe the game that would have been taken away this year would have been the OSU game. Now we lose a ton of exposure, plus 650,000 bones which we desperately need. Maybe we wouldn't have had the opportunity to play Purdue in 2003.

Way too many negatives for this to ever be conceivable.

This might require an NCAA rule change.

Seems to me our format is fine the way it is.
