PD: EMU a "MAC spoiler"
From the "MAC Insider" in today's Plain Dealer:
"Look back, look ahead: Biggest surprise, Kent State. Biggest disappointment, Miami/Akron. Rising fast, Ohio University. Falling fast, Toledo. Most puzzling, Miami. Most likely to improve the second half, Akron. Most likely to struggle, Western Michigan.
And "the spoiler" could be Eastern Michigan. Yes, the Eagles currently are winless. But if they are bound to steal one game this season, which one will it be - at home against Western Michigan, at kent State, home vs. Ohio or home vs. Northern Illinois?"

It won't be a spoiler, but I'm expecting Eastern to beat Toledo.
EMU is big and plays physical. I liked their D-line. We didn't intimidate their QB inspite of our great DE play.
Toledo has spent more time on their shrine to RB depth than actually running the ball. They are a game or two away from a Blackney-esque mutiny.

I expect EMU to beat UT as well. The Rocketts are free falling faster than Tom Petty. It's not that UT has been losing, it's how they've been losing. They've been outscored 127-33 in their last 3 games and it isn't going to get any easier with road games at EMU and NIU and home games with Akron, Ball State and Bowling Green. I can honestly see UT losing all five games left on their schedule. IMO, it looks like UT has packed it in for the year.

It's kind of nice to see that Bowling Green isn't mentioned in that list. As far as "the spoiler" EMU goes, I would love to see them pull an "upset" @ Kent. Of Kent's remaining schedule, I would love to see Ohio and Eastern beat them. But any loss would be good 8) .
It would also be nice to break our losing streak at the Gl"@$$" Bowl this year.

Anybody else noticing how minimal the UT trolls have been around here? It's been nice.

I don't get the WMU thing. They just came off of a good win vs. NIU.Bleeding Orange wrote: Most likely to improve the second half, Akron. Most likely to struggle, Western Michigan.

And considering what they did to the Wolfe Heisman train, too! 25 yards!kdog27 wrote:I don't get the WMU thing. They just came off of a good win vs. NIU.

Just hope you guys don't lose to this awful football team on November 21st. That would be embarrassing. In fact, anyone that loses to UT the rest of the season should be embarrassed as hell. Toledo is averaging just over four turnovers per game against MAC opponents. And we all know that MAC defenses aren't that good. The only thing we are averaging more of than turnovers is personal fouls.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Falconfreak90 wrote:I expect EMU to beat UT as well. The Rocketts are free falling faster than Tom Petty. Hell with UT. I'm concerned with CMUrocketfootball wrote:Just hope you guys don't lose to this awful football team on November 21st. That would be embarrassing. I would not be surprised at all if we lose to Toledo. When was the last time we won up there?
CMU will be even tougher. That's a darn good football team up there. They outplayed BC and looked like they belonged on the same field with Michigan. I was very impressed with them in Ann Arbor.

disturbing
While checking the validity of the Kent fumbles info, I find this UT fans opinion on a message board. I can't believe a CMU, WMU, or even Kent really thinks their recent victories were anything more than a step to the championship. It's actually kind of disturbing to think this guy is serious. I hope EMU finds that post.

"i think most of us have become very spoiled over the past few years, i mean, face it, a win over us is like winning a bowl game to a lot of these schools that are beating us, we are considered the elite of the MAC. Sure, things aren't going well this year, but, i do not really believe this will be the norm, even UT has to have a down year every now and then. Hopefully, the necessary corrections are made to right the ship, and i do believe the road back to prominence will be a short one."

Re: disturbing
Not sure who made that post, but I don't really see where there is anything wrong with it. Perhaps a bit arrogant in the part about wins over UT being like winning a bowl game and that UT is considered the elite of the MAC.........but is there any shame in a fan feeling that way about a school that has been very, very good and one of the elite teams in the MAC for the last 12 years?maquisard wrote:While checking the validity of the Kent fumbles info, I find this UT fans opinion on a message board. Toledo has had 12 straight winning seasons and that is a very impressive run, but it can be expected to have a bad season once in 13 years. Rocket fans are very spoiled and are being too hard on the results of this season so far. The last time UT was in any bit of a rebuilding year was 1999, and UT won 4 of their last 5 games to finish the season 6-5. If UT starts winning some games down the stretch I would have to think the rebuilding is happening fast and they will be very good next year.
That said, EMU has always played Toledo tough. We've had seasons where we won the West and even the MAC title, but lost to a bad EMU team. We've also had seasons where a loss to EMU knocked us out of MACC contention. So a Toledo team that is rebuilding could be in for an even tougher game against EMU.
