I have crappy seats now so I couldn't really see. But either way, it got us 7 points so I was happy!!!

I believe the "pass" was thrown slightly "backward", therefore it techinically wasn't a pass at all. If it had been dropped, it would have been a live ball. It's just semantics really, but assuming it indeed was backward, a fumble was the correct scoring decision.
In football terms, it was a "lateral" and NOT a forward pass, therrefore it was a fumble, no different than if a QB got hit, the ball pops loose in the air and caught and returned for a touchdown.
My timing couldn't have been better. I was just walking out of the bookstore tent after buying a couple items and stood at the fence to watch for a minute when that play happened. Got to see Crossley rumble into the endzone and the ensuing pileup. ::Grin::
From my vantage point it sure looked like a forward pass. But again...semantics really.
BTW - Here's looking forward to seeing Mr. Crossley win the MAC Defensive POTW today!!! He also had a forced fumble and a sack or two with some tackles for loss.
