Our Quarterback
I have not seen every game but the games I saw was widerecievers droping passes that were catchable. Most of AT picks bounce off recievers hands and go out of bounds. If you have noticed the offense has changed scince Omar and Jacobs left. They did not have to worry about quarterback comming in every play to run the ball under the center. Those plays don't work at all. Omar had some good recievers who were catching balls that are important. IAM NOT SAYING OUR RECIEVERS ARE NOT GOOD. WE ARE JUST A YOUNG FOOTBALL TEAM TRYING TO FIND OURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!

Most of you pinpointed one of the biggest problems with this team ---- it doesn't have an athletic quarberback. Turner appears to be a subpar passer, and is clearly no scrambler, i.e., he's been over-rated as a runner.
Had he been any kind of runner/sprinter, a good coach would have spotted him in high-school and had him on the track team. So I don't see him as being the kind of "athlete" that the QB position warrants in spite of his high school record. He's at the college level now, and he can't compete. He is incessantly caugt from behind when he tries to run, and his nearly total lack of confidence in the pocket shows up in every game with passes that fly over the heads of open receivers, i.e., if he can get the pass off. Too often, he doesn't even see an open receiver. He talks a game, but he really doesn't have any confidence. These guys, just like the coaches, are paid to produce. If they can't, find someobdy that can. BG has the material, and should have easily won that game last night. Wrong decisions cost us the game.

...and Mike Pagel should have been playing over that Kosar guy!
It's a case of the time tested "the backup qb is the most popular player on the team."
Turner is still in the maturation proccess. Rewind to Josh Harris' sophomore year and you would see that he was still struggling with consistancy with his passing game. The difference? It seems that the playbook is a combo of the Harris pb and the Jacobs pb leaning more heavily to the Jacobs pass-pass-pass-maybe run playbook. Harris "had permission" to use his legs and he became dangerous. It appears to me that the coaching staff is trying to mold Turner into more of a passing QB. He ran the option in HS right? So it's not like he is afraid to run.
I think it is a combination of the fact the coaching staff wants to give the O a pass first look and don't forget that Turner has been banged up, so they are protecting him by not running him over and over like they did with Harris.

all bowling green
There is a big difference in their development span though, Dayons. When Harris was a sophomore he was a true sophomore who had played RB the previous season. He was learning a new system from an entirely new coaching staff in his second year of college football.
Turner is in his 3rd year of college football, with the same HC & OC since he was recruited. He also has more starting experience to this point than Harris had.
Most importantly J5 made plays. Didn't he return kicks as a FR? I know he started a game at RB as a FR. Even when he was a QB struggling to throw at times, he still made plays that made you believe he was going to be something. Turner has made very few plays this season. He's made some good throws here and there, but had countless more opportunities lost. Personally, I don't think AT has what it takes to be a QB in D1A football.
Still, he is not the biggest problem with this program. He is a symptom of the biggest problem with this program.

That was the observation our group made watching the game as well. The CMU QB was no outstanding athlete, but he ran fast and ran hard. AT, for whatever reason, looked like he was in slow motion. That's kind of a problem when you depend so heavily on quarterback draws and runs. Combine that with the fact that the only sembelence of a passing attack came from one long pass to Corey and 4-5 incredible catches by Brantley and you've got issues. The innovative, explosive offense brough in by Meyer and Brandon is just about gone.BGAlum2006 wrote:turner looks like he plays in slow motion out there. he needs to either shape up or brandon needs to put sheehan in there.
if you've already burned the kid's redshirt, you should go ahead and let him play. i don't think he could do much worse than AT at this point.
UT bit the bullet this year and started investing time in their true freshmen QB. Another half of that and it's time we do the same.

One thing I noticed about AT is that he never makes a play on 1st or 2nd down. He always seems out of it to begin with, and all of his good throws come on either 3rd or 4th down when we've already dug a hole. Now this doesnt mean he's all of a sudden 100% either, but I swear to you his completion percentage must be 35% on 1st down, 45% on 2nd down, and 70% on 3rd and 4th down!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

After last night's game against CMU, I give Turner maybe a few more games, and if he doesn't improve notably, then I'd start Sheehan the rest of the season and see if he is our QB of the next few years. If he struggles, then maybe Turner, Sheehan, and Glaud need to wage an open competition in the spring and summer of 2007. One of these three guys has to be able to play!
The more we go on through the season, I am becoming more impressed with our WRs, and less with Turner. The WRs were getting open all night tonight, particularly Brantley and Partridge. Brantley had a huge game tonight. Looking forward it looks like we will have two playmakers in Barnes and Partridge, and with Bullock in the backfield, the challenge will be to have a good QB to get the ball out to these guys. If we can do that (assuming the OL doesn't go completely AWOL in 2007-08) our offense will be scary good!

Wow, it seems like some of you may forgotten that AT seperated his shoulder a few weeks back.......could that be why hes not running hard? He is a QUARTERBACK, he shouldnt be expected to run like a running back especially if he is still not 100%...
And one last thing, who is on here saying that AT is not a leader on this team? Are you at practices and in the locker rooms? Whether you wanna believe it or not, AT is a leader....He made a bad choice last year, whoopdee frickin doo....The team is over that, so why dont you all get over it too....The team wants AT on the field right now and hes our best option...I can tell you right now Glaud is NOWHERE near ready to stepping on to the field...

Ya know it's funny....everyone on here seems to understand that coaching decisions are really crappy right now. Yet on another thread i just read, supposedly 80% of people are still in full support of Brandon and feel he's not doing anything wrong.
Everything i read on this post is talking about why is this guy playing, that guy playing, this guy not understanding what to do. These all relate to coaching and something has to change.
If the kid separated his shoulder and isn't ready to play to 100%, then bench him. You have other options rather than watch a fish flip around on the dock struggling to breathe.
Quit giving Brandon excuses for his lack of coaching ability. We are better than that team and it was extremely disappointing to see the results.

BGFootbal, I really don't mean to be a dick, but from my perspective as a fan:
AT =
AG = ???
At this point, I'll take ??? over
hands down.
