Does Lovett becoming head coach improve our tackling?

How about our ability to stop the run or big play?

If you guys want to argue that the defense hasn't been far and away the best unit on this team, and been improving steadily, sack up and make the argument.

Who said it hasn't been? The fact that our offense and ST are worse than our defense doesn't mean we tackle well.

The defense is definitely the one unit that has shown what we wanted to see this season. They are very good for stretches, and pretty good most of the time. They play hard and with passion, and they seem to be making progress as the season goes along. That's more than what we can say for the offense. The STs has gotten better, but it really had no other choice...hopefully that will improve to the point where we're actually good on ST's.

That being said, I'm not ready to annoint Lovett as the next head coach candidate. I simply don't know enough about him or his coaching style to say that. I think I would prefer a complete rebuild of the staff at this point. The attitude here just doesn't seem right, and I'd rather bring fresh blood into the system. Too often when you promote an existing coordinator it becomes more status quo...this situation might be unique given he has not been here for the entire regime, who knows.

I do know that I have no idea who the next head coach is. I also know that he must not necessarily have experience as a HC or coordinator. I want somebody that knows football, and knows how to coach. Somebody who has the fire, drive, and capability of taking this program back into the top 25. It is foolish to limit yourself to coordinators or former HCs, I'd rather look towards the young talented coaches. I have resigned myself to the fact that we will be nothing more than a steppingstone for good coaches, but I'd much rather be the steppingstone for good coaches, than the place to be for a mediocre coach.
