Some thoughts....

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Looking at the updated standings, BG is still alive. Obviously we are in a bind and need to win out. It can be done. IF Ohio beats Kent (and they way Ohio is playing of late, this could easily happen), Kent and Ohio would be 4-1 and BG would be 3-2. Depending on Akron's outcome at UT, the Zips would be either 2-2 or 1-3. Miami is barely alive at 1-3 and faces Ball State next Sat. Buffalo is basically done. It becomes roughly a 4 team race.

It's still a tight race with 4 MAC games to go...last year the Akron Zips were 3-4, 2-2 MAC with 4 Conf games left. They won the East on a 3 way tiebreaker, winning 3 of 4 down the stretch. There is a ton of ball left. BG needs to come out and put Temple away as early as possible and start preparing for the do or die part of the schedule.

Of course if Kent beats OU, it's basically over, IMO> No way will Kent lose 3 MAC games the rest of the way...although I'd love for them to prove me wrong. Can't fault the optimist in me.

We are 4-4. I hope for 6-6 or 7-5. however, we lost badly to an average team this week because we were outcoached badly. That won't change.

Good thinking, Rubber City Falcon. As long as you're in the mix anything can happen in sport, and like you say, we're in the mix.

I think 7-5 is pretty much going to be our record. I think we'll beat Temple, Miami, UT, and most likely lose to Akron. Hopefully that will somehow get us into a bowl game but I doubt it... :(
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

Average team? That's a 5-0 MAC team that beat us (on their field) because, right now, they're too much for us.

I think he meant overall. Yes they are 5-0 in the MAC, but they realistically aren't in the top 50 in the nation. They are somewhere in the middle IE average. They certainly didn't out talent us Thursday, just outcoached and outplayed us.

OK, I hear you. I still think that team is too much for us. They found the holes, and we don't make plays when we have the ball.

We played Wisconsin and Ohio State pretty evenly statistically speaking, and they have a ton more talent and resources than we do. No way you can convince me that CMU is too much for us!

We seem to play to and are coached to the PERCIEVED level of our opponents. It's like being on a roller coaster when watching this team. I blace blame more on the coaches than the players because the coaches need to be able to motivate the team to the level they played OSU and Wisconsin each week and that is just not getting done. However, plays still need to be made on the field and the coaches cannot make those plays.

I agree. We seem to play our best team games, against our best opponents, which is actually a bad thing. Our 2 best team games this year came against OSU and Wisconsin. Well that didn't do us any good because we really didn't have a chance to win those games anyway. If we took how bad we played against Kent and CMU, and swapped it with how good we played against OSU and Wisconsin we would be 6-2 and 5-0 in the MAC!

Correction: the game vs. the Drunken Slobcats was by far our best team game this year. That game was an impressive display of what this team is capable of doing consistently in the coming years.

Come on, do you really think Wisconsin and OSU were given us all they had? Please. We have (in MAC terms) an average team this year. The record of the teams we have beaten is 7-22. Three of our wins (EMU, Buffalo, Fla Int) are over teams with two wins between them--and we barely won each of the three games. Central has a better team than us. So does Kent.

I'm not being negative. I just don't see any reason to conclude we're anything but a middle of the pack MAC team. We just don't have the players to win consistently right now. Maybe that isn't how it SHOULD be, but I think that's how it is.

We didn't fold when we got behind this time, and I think it is entirely possible for us to win 3 of our last 4 games and build a great foundation for next season.

"Please", how about you learn how to read a post. Never did I say that UW or OSU played balls out against us. All I said that those were OUR best played TEAM games this year. I didn't watch the Ohio game, but as someone else pointed out that should be considered as well. If we played with the same intensity and passion against Kent and CMU as we did against OSU, UW, and Ohio we would have won both of those games. They don't have better players than us, I am sorry but they don't. We didn't bring our A game and it showed and thats why we got beat. NOT because we are some middle of the road MAC team that can't compete against the superior atheltes of CMU or Kent!

Well, if they didn't play balls out, what difference does it make it we played with them statistically, as you noted in your original post?

I do believe our best game of the season was against OU. If we played that well every week we would win a lot--that's quite an insight! I do think Kent and CMU have better teams than us this year. Why is that so hard to admit?

Anyway, I do see your point. Go Falcons!
