I was told that the FMB and student section will be moved to the East Side of the stadium for that very reason. Which means that hopefully all sitting on the Home side will be able to hear the FMB a little better! As well as bother the Miami team as well!
If the band is moved to the NE side, by the tunnel, that's cool.

Putting the students on that side is wrong. We've bitched when Miami(OH) does it repeatedly, why would we do the same?

Also, I think having our student section 20 feet behind our HOME bench is a good deal.
The student section could still be behind the home bench. My guess is that the TV cameras will mostly scan the east side of the stadium. During both the CMU and EMU games this week, mostly the visitor sides were shown. Just move the Home bench to the east side. It ensures the BG complies with the rule that student sections can't be behind the vistors bench, our students are behind the BG bench and hopefully it will make the stadium look better than CMU and EMU did.
From what I've heard, that's the exact reason why it's being done. Hopefully they don't place the student section right behind the Miami team though, that could really cause some problems that I wouldn't want to see.

I would hope our fans could never come close to what I saw at CMU. Their students were very rude and obnoxious behind our bench. I was surprized they were allowed to be there saying the things they said. I almost went down and kicked some of their little azzes for it too. Glad I have some restraint and a lot of pride in who I am and what Falcon football is all about! I would have hated to stoop to their level, but they crossed the line many times.

So then... for some of the season ticket holders...

Westsiders: What would you think about moving the team to the East side, if only for one game?

Eastsiders: What would you think about having the student section in front of your seats?

The team used to be on the East side, until Blackney came. I think it made it easier to get to the locker room.

Also, I believe that the team and or band made a 1 game only move to the East side for a Toledo ESPN2 game in 1999 or 2000.

As a West Sider, I wouln't mind seeing the team on the East Side for one game. But I want them back on the West Side after that. I think they belong on the West Side...which usually gets filled much better than the East Side.

Will the "visitor/Miami" section still be on the East Side? When we hosted the MAC Championship a couple of years ago, having Miami students and BG students, who were sitting on the East Side due to overflow, caused for a lot of "near" fights. Most of the BG students at that game on the East side were bandwagon attendees who wanted to be on TV or wanted to "start" things with the visitors. Especially hard since we lost and several Miami fans were bragging.

As a season ticket holder on the East Side, having the FMB and students will shake up a lot of the old timers around us. They are football knowledgeable but very critical of everything. Most are locals, not alumni. Who fills up the West Side if all of this is moving to East side? Don't we have attendance figures to get to?

I won't move from the West side to the East side. I enjoy being able to watch the band at halftime from the front. I enjoy sitting directly under the TV booth and chatting with J5 during halftime. And I HATE looking into the sun. I do like the thought of moving the students and team to the East side permanently. There is more potential for shots of GB on TV from that side since the cameras are mainly on the West side. Wherever the team is, that is where the students should be.

I jumped into this conversation late, so if I'm off topic or re-stating anything, forgive me, but...
As far as the ESPN games go, they've always done a really nice job of putting cameras in a position to see/sweep the student section. If they are going to move it, though, they definitely need to swap benches as well. We saw how big of a fuss was put up a couple weeks ago with this sort of situation, the last thing we need is to get tied up in it.
Personally, I'd hate to see the student section/home bench swapped to the other side. Call it sentimentality, but I love sitting where I do for the games. I always come in the same gate, go up the same ramp and sit in the same area. I'd hate to have my game-day routine thrown off.
Whatever happens, though, I'll roll with it.

I share your sentiments for sure, but I will say this - if most other schools in the MAC are going to blow off a conference rule (Ohio, Miami, CMU, NIU that I know of) regarding the placement of student sections in relation to the opposing bench, then why should we be very concerned about it for one game? I pray that we don't have any problems and am confident that our AD will enforce sportsmanship amongst our student fans, but I just don't see why we should switch around absolutely everything for a rule that has never been enforced and likely never will be given the laisze-fare stance that Chryst has seemingly taken.

In fact, if anything, this could serve as a one-game protest of the conference's inaction, and it would be quite fitting against one of the rule's worst violators, I think.

I think Blackney made the switch prior to the 1992 season. I recall being in the student section in 1991 for the Cincy game and the Bearcat bench was on the west side. I was on the opposite side in 1992 for the ECU game and I remember being impressed by the big ass fans they had brought with them. (no, I'm not referring to fat Carolina rednecks...I mean actual fans that circulate cooling air)

who cares where fans sit?

Students or non-students it shouldn't matter... I don't care where the students sit, most alumns don't care where the students sit, hostile environments are what football and coaching are about. Sack up you wussy MAC coaches and get over it. Are you going to tell 95,000 fans in death valley in LSU to quiet down? I don't think so...

Put the students behind Miami... we don't care... be creative... be obnoxious... but be a sportsman above all else.

If students pay a student fee for all athletic events which they can't choose not to pay, are they not then season ticket holders? If so, should they not go ahead and get whatever seats are available for GA?

Stupid MAC rules ruin the fun of football!

Well to be fair, we always make fun of Miami fans as wine-and-cheese people who come across as snotty. But dumb? Nah.

I say let people sit where they want, regardless of ticket or student status. Its not as if I've actually paid for the seats I've occupied for any game I've attended in the last 14 years.

A few years ago, there was a group of our fans (maybe 10-15) that stood directly behind the opponents bench and yelled at them the entire game. I don't know if they still do that because I don't sit on that side any more (I'm usually in the FC tent for the entire game).

Brandon used to do a ticket giveaway for those seats to the most crazy-loud fans he could find.
