Final, REDHAWKS 4-3 over Falcons.

Post by FalconBlue »

88.1 FM gives dismal report on Falcons tonight. The start of the first and second periods were pretty good according to radio but thereafter total RedHawk dominance.
After 2 periods the shot count is 38-15 to Miami, and what does that typically mean?
88.1 report the Redhawks to be quicker, stronger and faster.

Falcons played better in latter part of 3rd period with Eddie Neville spectacular.

A young team like this could have cashed in after the second period. The third period, they played lights out.

More work to be done, sure. Especially seeing that they basically barfed all over themselves in large chunks of the first and second.

I'm not terribly disappointed seeing the young 'uns coming out with their hair on fire in the third.

The defense MUST get better, however.

Just like I have been saying we have a "TEAM" this year and they are only going to get better. these kids are winers and are not going to just fold like they did so disgracfully last year.
Young, not quite as physically strong, as many of oponentsm but the future s clear. These kids will play hard, smart and only get better, re earn the respect in the CCHA that BGSU has had in the past, since the inception.

I'll say it: this was a game that we should have pulled out. Had we played all game the way we showed we were capable of in the third, we would have. That being said, we also have to bear in mind that our boys were playing not only one of the best teams in the CCHA, but also one of the best teams in the country. Give credit where it is due.

Neville is a stud - I like him a lot.

We absolutely have to cut down the number of shots we are giving up. Neville has been solid, but it is hard for any goalie to not give up three or four goals when they are facing fifty shots a night. Our D proved that they were capable of doing that in the third tonight, they just need to start doing it from the opening face-off.

Overall, I'm proud of the resiliancy that this team showed tonight. I wish we would have gotten a point, but I will take a one goal loss to Miami right now with the team showing that they are never going to give up.

Go get 'em tomorrow, boys!

Did you even listen to the broadcast? They admitted that in the 2nd period the team was looking defeated, and brought it together in the 3rd.

bg outshot miami 15-7 in the third after allowing three goals to fall behind 4-2 after two. i'd say they did not quit and stepped it up. i was impressed because in prior years we would have tacked on a few more and made it 6 or 7 to 2. we'll see who comes out with more energy tonight but you guys are definitely looking better and there's lots of season to play.

I listened to the first and third..... missed the second. During the first I thought we held our own. We score at full strength, Miami scores on the PP. All tied up at 1-1.....

I come back near the beginning of the third, its 4-2, Miami. But we outshot Miami during the third - control the game for all but the final two minutes and come up one goal short of putting the game into overtime.

If this is how we continue to play and improve, i will be happy. The team plays hard such as the first and third periords...... I think more and more pucks will fall our way..... and we should have a good season.

Looking forward to getting to the game tonight and watching us win one in Steve "BG" Cady Arena.

One thing I forgot to mention about this game that impressed me was what BG did at the end of the game. A faceoff with :22 left in our offensive zone, BG wins the faceoff but isn't able to generate any decent scoring opportunities. But, they played it smart, got the puck down low and got a whistle with :04 left. Moto won the faceoff and gave Petruska a chance to score on a one-timer. The puck didn't find the back of the net, but that was some damn good exectuion and tells me that our guys are playing a lot smarter than they have in recent years. And redhawk95 is right, Miami is an excellent defensive team, and the fact that we put 30 on Effinger says a lot about our offensive potential. It is the other end of the ice that needs work, but I think we can overcome that as the year goes along.

Now, lets get the split tonight! GO FALCONS!!!

We need at least a point this weekend, but I'd be content with two of course.

I'll be producing the game tonight and hope to hear a good one.

I'll also be DVR'ing the game to watch later.

Does that mean it will be on ONN again tonight?

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
