What needs to stop IMMEDIATELY

Well first of all DD, our recruiting would suffer tremendously. Not only would we not be able to bring in anybody good because of the drop to I-AA, but I predict we'd have people transferring off the current team left and right. They didn't come here to play I-AA football. Ellis, Rojas, Dozier, Sanderson, Glaud, Bullock, Partridge, I bet at minimum half of those guys would be out of here immediately. We'd be forced to stick a bunch of walk-ons in there in the short term just to field a team. It would essentially be suicide for our football program how quickly our talent level would disintegrate.

Of course, if this scenario did present itself, I'd try out to walk-on. And I think I'd have an outside shot of making it, that's how bad we would be following a move to I-AA.

I would find it VERY difficult to continue attending all the games at the Doyt as a 1AA team. We may not pull in a ton of great OOC matchups, and we may be competing in the worst conference in all of 1A, but it is still 1A. 1AA is a whole new world, and a big dropoff in talent.

I'd still have fun at a game or two a year, but I don't think I could get myself to really follow the team in the same way. 1A is where it's at, and we should remain there at all costs.

Hey, BG could be the Western Illinois of I-AA. Get the players kicked off the major universities (Michigan, Ohio St) or the highly recruited QB that got passed on the depth chart by a higher recruited player. 8)

The email I received made an "offer" of 20 or more tix at $7 each, which basically means that the Athletic Dept. was asking me for a "$140 donation", as these tix could be given away to various groups etc. I may be a bit on the petty side with this, but then, after giving them another $140 on top of my season ticket investment, they wanted to charge another $5 "handling charge" too!.... Like I said, it may be petty on my part, but don't ask me to give you that much money, then charge me for the privilege!!!! :x

Thanks. I couldn't remember how many tickets that I would be purchasing with my $140 "donation".

I hate to sound cheap, but I don't want to drop $140 (or $145) if we aren't going to be close to the necessary attendance. I would love to see an update on how many tickets have been sold, if significant donors have been contacted to make a large ticket purchase "donation", etc. I don't want us to miss this stupid attendance requirement, but I really don't want to waste that money if we aren't going to be close.

1. Every ticket purchased counts toward the attendance. If we sell 20,000, then we get credit for 20,000. As an aside, Eastern Michigan has an alum that purchase 20,000 tickets. They are not worrying.

2. The attendance requirement was set up to keep teams from moving into Division 1, not to drop schools.

Update on sales- don't know.Better question for next week. Significant donors- YES Are we going to make it? Don't know- but it certainly won't be for lack of trying on the part of the new AD and the rest of the Athletic Dept. I have confidence that the family of Falcons will take care of their own.

I didn't get this email. I assume its because I am not on any email list that the university has. I am a season ticket holder.

Can someone pm me the email so I can contemplate the offer. I am very interested in helping ensure BG stays D1A. Or at the least stays off probation for the next two years so they could get to a bowl game. (I know I have somewhat selfish reasons).

Dear Falcon Club Members,

I'm writing with an update on our football attendance situation - and a request for your help, because you truly can make a difference.

As you may have heard, we need to average 15,000 in paid home football attendance this fall in order to maintain our Division I-A status.
One ramification of not meeting the 15,000 target is the possibility of not being eligible to compete in post-season bowl games. Beyond the bowl penalty, there is the very real perception issue - which would hurt all of Bowling Green State University.

While the recent Eastern Michigan game was our best Perry Stadium attendance of the year, we still need a big crowd for the Nov. 15th game against Miami. Given the uncertainty of weather and mid-week constraints for alumni that live far away, we need to take all variables
off the table and focus on the pre-sale of tickets.

You can help push Bowling Green over the top by purchasing a block of tickets for the Miami game. Here are the details:

1. Tickets are $21 each or just $7 each if you order
a block of 20 or more.

2. Ordering tickets is easy.....

* In person or on the phone (419) 372-0000 via our
ticket office in Anderson Arena.
The ticket office hours are 9-5 Monday - Friday.

* Or order online anytime, which is as simple as 1-2-3
1. Go to bgsufalcons.com
2. Click on the "Single Game tickets" button
in the center of the page.
3. Input the code GOBG to gain access to
the $7 rate for a block of tickets.

* Print and fill out the attatched order form and send
it back to us. Either drop it in the mail
or fax it to (419) 372-6060.


If you're able to purchase a block of tickets, the best thing is to bring friends and family members and help us fill up the Doyt. Another option, though, is to donate your block of tickets to the Falcon Club. By donating your tickets, you will receive a gift receipt for the value of the tickets and our staff will distribute the tickets to area not-for-profit agencies for their use.

This is an important time for Bowling Green Football and we need the entire Falcon Family to come together. There will be lots of give aways and promotions at the game as well. The attendance mark is an acheivable hurdle, but we will all need to focus on selling out the Doyt on Nov. 15.

Sadly we will wind up in D1aa or D1 will just bcome the new D1aa when the BCS spins off.

One thing to note, mathematically, is that if you plan on buying 7 tickets at face value for this game, you'll actually save money by buying 20! Then donate the extras, or spread out a little at the game. I don't know why that math just struck me, but it did.

...because what BG accomplished in 2003-04 is about as good as it can get for any MAC program. National rankings, national TV. Occasional mentions on ESPN or in USA Today. That's it, folks. That's the summit of the Matterhorn.

Yes, Marshall and Miami each clawed their way to a #10 national finish in the last decade and yes, for some inexplicable reason other MAC programs have been more successful in having their stars go on to successful NFL careers, but all in all, these last 5 years have been a damn good time to be a fan of BG football.

Which, if that's the way it's going to be, fine. But go there every year.

Just because it's the summit doesn't mean we shouldn't push to be there annually.
