So that's the play they ended the game on with the 4th and 5 at the 16 or 12 or whatever? They caught a TD and had it waved off for Off. PI?

Ugh.

I'm really ambivalent about this one...we had some serious breakdowns on defense and some mental errors on offense...the kind you really shouldn't see this late in the year.

On the other hand...AT really played well in the second half and the team did not quit...that may be the biggest difference between thisyear and last year. I think we lost some "effort " games last year, but other than the Kent loss this year, I thnk we've played hard for the full 60 all year. We haven't played smart, but we've played hard.

We played well enough to overcome a horrible defensive performance and win but the f**king officials robbed us. That just flat out sucks

Oh, on that "phantom" pass interference call they were bitching about. The guy jumped into our WR and made contact with his head after the ball had gone over his head. It wasn't pass interference, but it sure as hell was a personal foul.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I really dont like to pin games on officiating, but in this case i will make un exception. I was sitting by falconfreak and ruit, (i was in the orange fro) and clearly saw no pass interference on either player, ruiz made a great catch and the refs stole it away! DAMNIT!!!!!!

Just got back from Akron. I am glad that AT got the start and played pretty well today. I don't really watch the receivers down the field, so I'm not sure if they're open initially, but everyone was whining about how long he holds the ball. Not sure if it is because no one is open or if he was slow on reads. Either way, he didn't make any major mistakes today and he was the main reason why we had a chance in the last 2 minutes.

Akron's O-line just dominated our D-line today. It was tough to watch because everyone knew what was coming, but we just couldn't stop it. We had chances to make big plays defensively, but their offense ended up making them. We had a shot at a sack on the long TD pass and we had Getsy stopped on the 4th down when it was 28-21. They stepped up and made bigger big plays than we did.

I'm not going to hang this loss on the officials. I will agree that Ruiz and the Akron player were fighting back and forth, but it looked like Ruiz pushed off and gained a big advantage because of it. I would, however, like to know how we had the ball on the KO fumble, but they retained possession. Not sure how that works.

Finally, the Rubber Bowl was the last of the current MAC stadiums that I had not seen a game in. Glad I saved the worst for last. What a dump.

The replay clearly showed Ruiz push off. Whether that is a normal call or not is another matter. But he clearly pushed off.

I, myself, just got back from Green where Freak was allowing us to invade his house.

I'm VERY pragmatic about this loss. This is a young and beat-up team. That's not an excuse, just a fact. The play calling - once again - wasn't great, but the overall game plan put us in this game.

Quite a few boneheaded mistakes on the D line and it seemed as though

I caught the reaction of Mrs. Brandon and their son. I don't think anyone in the stands were more upset with a loss than those two. I'm sure GB is just as frustrated. That pretty much put things in perspective for me.

I'm not sure what the next two games hold. Miami and Toledo. Both historically VERY difficult wins. We may lose out and that wouldn't surprise me.

We play for next year at this point. Let's see what happens.

Next year is going to be interesting.

I would have to agree with what you said, RUIT. The d-line made a lot of careless mistakes and the defense as a whole is looking more and more like last years' the past three games. Hopefully this team can win the last two and get some momentum going into next year. The defense honestly didnt show much grit or heart today. This team has prmise but must play with a passion and heart to win games.

I left to go out and practice some dodgeball...didn't hear the comments. What were they saying?

I was working around the house and missed the entire first half. I listened to the 2nd half and was in the chatroom, but it's tough to really complain about a game when you don't see things. Against Temple it's one thing because you know you should win, but in a more evenly matched game it's tough to really guage things from the radio.

I know that I heard a number of times Todd Walker berating Turner in the 2nd half. A lot of, "And he missed him AGAIN" type calls. Or him yelling at Turner to run during the play.

At this point I'm rather disheartened by this team/season. We've been losing, which we all expected. I went in thinking we'd get 4-5 wins, and that looks like where we'll probably land. I'm very disappointed to see no improvement as the season has worn on and I'm saddened by seeing nothing in the way of young talent at WR or QB. Bullock has been a pleasant surprise. The defense has been better than I expected, but still not great.

In the end what's left to complain about? I think we've got among the worst 15-20 coaching staffs in college football, and we're right where we belong among the worst 15-20 teams in college football. Hopefully that will change, only time will tell because I know we're stuck with coach Brandon for the forseeable future.

I do wish that I could've heard Noel on the radio though :)

All we can do now is throw out all the stops for the last 2 games and try to look towards the future. I'd like to get a real look at Sheehan in a true start, but that's unlikely to happen.

We have now officially gotten worse for the 3rd straight year...bummer.

I don't watch the downfield action very often, so I can't comment on whether guys were actually open or not. However, it certainly looked like Turner was going through his reads well yesterday. Based solely on watching AT, I have to think that the receivers were not initially open and he held the ball longer to allow them to break open. If they got open, he threw the ball. If not, he took off and ran.

It seems like the kid just can't win with our fan base. He was 20 for 36 and ran for over 100 yards. He had a couple drops from Freddie and I can only remember 1 really bad throw. He started out the drive after the onside kick recovery by air mailing a guy down the side. It's too bad he was actually excited about having a chance to win the game.

We lost by 7 to Akron on a day where our defense gave us nothing and we completely avoided Chris Bullock. AT is the main reason we had ANY chance of winning the game. I think he deserves a lot of credit from people on this board. He should be our starter in the last two games and should be in the lead for the QB competition next spring.
