Changes for next year
Changes for next year
Although we have had many failures this year, we are far from broken as a football program. I have been to every home game and at times ive been impressed with our moxey and at times Ive been disappointed with our lack of exicusion.
My first change would be the special teams coach. BG has given up far too many blocked punts and kick returns. It would be fine if it was only the first couple games, but this has been consistant throughout the season.
Second I would run two quarterbacks. Turner just can not get the job done passing but hes a good runner when healthy. Sheehan is a better passer. He may be our best bet to get the ball down field. To be honest the QB position should be an open competition come spring. We need a LEADER at QB and we dont have that right now.

If you're wondering why no one has replied to you, it could be the contradictory statement in your last paragraph regarding run two quarterbacks and then we need a leader at QB. Not making sense leads to silence.reyray82 wrote:

RE: Changes for Next Year
Don't forget our defense, the DLine should be able to hold its own next year. Our DB’s and CB's are consistently getting beat over top, mainly because of heavy run support, they are making too many tackles on run plays which means poor LB play. If these LB’s against Akron are the result of what happens without Terrel White at MLB then we are in deep trouble next year, no speed and not aggressive at all. We need a more aggressive style of play with the defensive strategy. More pressure on the QB’s, up-field penetration and our goal should be to have more tackles-for-loss, not after 6–10 yd gains.
I think our linebackers will be better next year. Basler, Haneline, and Dozier are all playing their first full season of heavy play and Fells and Jackson are true freshmen. I think another winter in the weight room and spring ball will help those guys out quit a bit.
Does anybody know the status of Bobby Thomas? Is he still in school with a chance to return next year? If he comes back, I think we will have a very dynamic run attack with Bullock, Thomas, Macon, and Turner (if he is the starter). Those guys running behind Lichtensteiger, Huelsman, Nystrom, Steffy, and *insert fifth O lineman here* should be able to open up the passing game.
I think the passing game will be better next year as well. We need to give Zach Charles, Ty Pronty, and Freddie Barnes some time to learn the position. I expect them to be improved next year as well.
I hate looking forward to next year at this point, though. We have 2 games left against our 2 biggest rivals. Let's get two wins and head into the winter and spring with some positive vibes.

I've never seen Fells or Jackson, where are they? I hope they have the speed to run down hill, tackle and make plays. Dozier would be better at a DB position, Hanline and Basler lack the speed, aggression and play making ability for LB's, as aparent with Terrell out of action. Akron and Wisconsin ran all over this defensive group, remember they will get better too.
Haven't heard about Bobby Thomas' return, the 'O' and 'D' lines should be the bright spots of the team next year. I agree the passing game will improve, but it would be nice to reccruit a 6"4 plus receiver that can go up for the ball. Any JC transfers out there?
I'm looking forward to next year, this season is over with. The coaches should start using these last two games to prep players for for the spirng season next year. We've fallen off so much this season that if we win or loose at this point it really makes no difference. All we can do with the remainder of this season is look towards the building the team for the future and hopefully a good recriting class next year.

I've been away from the board for awhile,BGGrad01 wrote: I think the passing game will be better next year as well. We need to give Zach Charles, Ty Pronty, and Freddie Barnes some time to learn the position. I expect them to be improved next year as well.

The (Graduated) "OU Falcon"
Don't know whether Parks is struggling with the injury from last year or not, but he has been passed up on the depth chart. It is a very rare occasion when he is on the field.rc_ziggy84 wrote:I've been away from the board for awhile,BGGrad01 wrote: I think the passing game will be better next year as well. M Parks showed some flashes last year that really made me have high hopes for him. He was getting lots of playing time with guys like Sharon, Sanders, and Patridge on the field. Now Sharon and Sanders are gone and Parks is no where to be seen. I sure think it has to be lingering effects from his injury.

Our Freshman receivers, however, have done NOTHING to justify their playing time. They have done less than what Parks did last year.moneymaker02 wrote:When was the last time you saw Parks catch a ball in a game???? He's fine and is just riding the pine and playing special teams. He's been passed on the depth chart because our freshmen recievers and the ability of Brantley to stay healthy this year has kept him there.
Perhaps Parks is suffering a slump of sorts, I don't know. I tend to think, though, that his injury has kept him from performing at the level we saw last season. If he's lost a step or cannot cut as well, that would explain why he's on the sideline while these freshmen are playing.
I mean it's not like the younger guys are producing great results to keep him on the sideline...

I think you meant Zach Charles. Ty Pronty also caught a couple balls for short yardage on Saturday. Maybe the freshmen receivers are being used to run all of the underneath stuff, while Partridge and Ruiz are covering the 10-yard downfield passes.Flipper wrote:Before he got hurt, Calvin Marshall had a fair amount of catches...I don't think it's entirly his fault that his avg yards per catch was so low. We've had a hard time throwing the ball downfield this year
I thought Brighton looked pretty impressive on his highlight video. Does anybody know if he is hurt, intentionally redshirt, or simply not good enough to see the field with this set of receivers?
