Bill Snyder took the absolute worst program in Division I-A and build a pretty reputable program by playing cupcakes 1A teams (see us in 1997) and 1AA at home in Manhattan. His teams were infamous for playing a packed home schedule of patsies.

I think we need to build our fan base right now (students, townies, alums and the like) and you do that by playing at home.

Agreed, but we need to bring atleast one opponent in here people want to see. Minnesota is a good one. What about Cincinnati, Michigan State or Indiana?

Is the Pitt game out? Boise and FIU might back out of home & home's? How can they really "back out" of these agreements anyway?

I'm baffled that most teams have their entire schedules pretty much confirmed a year in advance and we don't really have a single OOC game set in stone.

My argument is that it doesn't matter who is on the schedule to the fans that we are trying to draw in- the casual sports fan or local attendee that is not a diehard BG or football fan. I work in minor league baseball, the kings of this kind of promotion. I sell the event, the entertainment, not the teams on the field- it is rare to sell the players much (see Omar). I point to our attendance not really influxing for Big Boy BCS foes (see Pitt, Mizzou, ) than it is normally for 1AA schools (see Liberty, SEMO).

It doesn't matter who we play, just that The Falcons are playing, there will be the band, the kids zone, tent city, falcon walk, and tailgating. The opponnent is negotiable. Many schools competing at the 1AA level draw as well if not better than some M.A.C. schools- and they ONLY play against 1AA teams or lower at home.

If we can get Cincinnati or Indiana to come on a home and home basis I'll take it. But there is no reason we should do a two for one and stick the team with only 4 home games in a season. A 2 for 1 with Cincinnati or a home game with a 1AA school? I'll take the home game every time.

A number of BCS schools play a 1-AA school every year. Hell, Colorado LOST to Montana State this year. Minnesota, I believe, almost lost to North Dakota State. I have no problem anymore playing a 1-AA school to keep a game at the Doyt. I used to hate playing 1-AA but my view has changed.

I feel the same way Falconfreak. I'd rather play a 1-AA team home opener.

2. Get a win at HOME
3. Weather should still be nice
4. Attendence tends to be better earlier in the season.
5. We're not playing for a BCS bid, so screw strength of schedule.

I would strongly prefer a "mid-major" that we can get a "home and home" with to open the season!

I'll take the 1-AA team. We don't get screwed this way. One thing we have lacked the past few years is early home games. The home game vs. Eastern Kentucky in 2003 was nice.

Coach Brandon said that they were trying to, but it hasn't been announced yet that it is final.

Tell Montana State that. There are many 1-AA teams out there that are as good or better than some 1-A schools. Playing them would better than playing an away game at a mediocre "major conference" school. I believe any of the top 10 1-AA teams would hand most MAC teams their butts this year. We all know there is a clear division between some teams in 1-A. That exists in 1-AA as well. I think instead of there being division 1-A and 1-AA there should just be a playoff and BCS segment for division 1. Each conference would decided where it wanted to be. ALL division 1 schools would have 85 scholarships to give. The only difference would be the BCS segment would chase a dream and the playoff segment would actually earn a National Championship given by the NCAA. And again, ALL of division 1 would be eligible for bowls as long as they have a winning (7-5 or better) record. This will make spots in the bowls a little more competitive. The stoning can begin....................now.

you need to get out man. Road games are the best. I don't think they should go to only 4 home games or nothing, but I love road tripping. they may be more expensive, but it is great to see all the different traditions and atmospheres. I'd love to go down to Ole Miss...winnable game against a BCS team, plus THE GROVE! I just got back from Tallahassee this weekend, great time despite UVA losing 33-0.

Taking extra road games for $$ is a far greater sign of a weak football program than staying at home to play a 1AA school. We're trying to improve our image, not diminish it.
