Classic quotes after 4-0 shutout Saturday from Pooch.

Post by cowboyjoe »

"I thought we did some good things. We played well, we just weren't good enough to win this type of game."

My favorite from Pooch after the Miami, Ohio 3-0 loss. "I think it was one of our best games we have played in three years here. We corrected a lot of things from last night. They scored on their power play and they won the hockey game." "That was as good as a defensive effort that we have played."

I saw those quotes too and had a little chuckle.

"We just werent good enough to win this type of game"

what type of game is he talking about? I know we were not good enough to win a hockey game.

I think Pooch deserves until the end of the year but if we get swept this weekend this board and home attendance will dry up pretty quick.

This is the exact thing that makes me think he doesn't deserve until the end of the year. If your own "coach" doesn't believe in his team then how is the team suppose to believe in themselves???????????

They need to believe they can WIN ever game, no matter who it is!!! To all the we love pooch people, tell me how would you feel if you were a player and heard from your coach????

Maybe the quotes from the players should have been: "We tried to do what we were suppose to do, but, we just don't have a good enough COACH for this level of D1 Hockey!

Here's a tip for Pooch, when something isn't working over and over and over again......perhaps its time to try something NEW!!!! AND NEVER DO I WANT TO HEAR "WE JUST WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH", FROM A COACH!!!!!!

Sorry, to me this qoute is just complete and utter disrepect to every one of our BG Hockey players, fans, and to the University and Community!

I think you need to differentiate between "weren't" and "aren't". He obviously meant we weren't good enough that night to win. I'm not really pleased with his performance as a coach, but you're really twisting his words here.

Weren't, aren't, this night, that night, makes absolutely no difference, I repeat, I never want to hear that as a qoute from the coach! It is disrespectful and doesn't inspire confidence.

I am surprised why all the talk about these comments, do you really mean to tell me that you haven't read those comments and ones very similar to them in every loss that BG gets. (sarcasim)

There is a huge difference between the two words in this context. I've heard Phil Jackson, Bill Parcells, Bill Cowher, Dean Smith, etc etc etc issue the exact same phrase after a loss. Almost every coach says it at some point in their coaching career.

I'm not crazy about a lot of the stuff he says, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with this particular quote.

Ooooooh, I don't know. These words look a LOT like every other quote I've ever read from the losing coach to the media. I put very little weight on ANYTHING said in a presser by a coach.

Except words from S Paluch are open to far more splitting hair scrutiny to substantiate a certain mind-set.

lifes great when on top, but when rebuilding from the bottom we given last year after a playoff birth the year before its just no good?

come on you all know we have long row to hoe here, esp after being DEAD LAST, last year. Sure it sucks, but is it that hard, to see the guys played well this weekend?
Some times when a team plays well they still lose the game. that is what happened this week end. It is by no means a reason to call for the coach to resign.

what a bunch of negative hacks on here....stop by a practice this week and watch these guys work...they actually are far better than lastyear, work harder and play better as a team. We are going to be fine...are we contenders this year? hell no. but are egg sucking last place...Def not!

Most people on here are not caling for Pooch to leave right now. I think he should have this year and maybe next. But the question is how long do you give a coach to stay in last place. Its the same if your a CEO of a company, if you are running in the red year after year your gone.

I think this weekend we have 2 games that we probably should win. OSU has been getting knocked around pretty well this year. They have been giving up alot of goals.

I don't mean to contradict everyone here but it's my opinion that the quotes were taken out of context. What few people know is that the flu has been making its way through the team. Given that, the quotes make a bit more sense although the could have been worded better. Some of the team members were playing while they were sick, some of them didn't make the trip because they were sick. Given the depleted state of the team, they certainly were in no shape to be playing, let alone playing on the road against a team that is currently riding a huge win streak.

A lot of times when a team loses the game they weren't good enough to win.

I don't want to start a pissing contest with a fellow Falcon fan, but I have one question for you...

Were you at the games this weekend?

If you weren't, I don't think that you can say things like "but is it that hard, to see the guys played well this weekend?"

I think it's easy to spin a statement or take it out of context as BGFan has stated, so I'm not so upset about the statements that Coach Paluch says in the press. Besides, I would expect nothing less from a coach than to TRY to put a positive spin on what was NOT a good weekend. I wouldn't expect any coach to come out and say something like "well, we suck." I've decided to watch the games for myself and not bother with any media outlets, you rarely get a full picture this way.

I've posted my feelings about this weekend in the Saturday game thread and like I said there...I think everything is correctable...it's going to take some effort, and only time will tell WHO is willing to give that effort. Will the coaches, team, fans or administration give the effort to bring this program back? I can't answer that for anyone other than myself. I've been in my seats, home and away for all of this, and I'm willing to see it through. How much longer my patience lasts? I don't know the answer at this point, I know it's wearing thin.

GO FALCONS!
