Worst Weather Ever
Worst Weather Ever
I haven't been around as long as some of you have, but that was the worst weather I have sat through at a BG game. The GMAC Bowl was pretty lousy, but still fun. The Miami game last year was so bad it was comical. Tonight was definitely the worst, though. I can deal with the cold and I can deal with some rain, but the combination of the rain, cold, and wind tonight was awful. Can anybody think of anything recently that was worse?

I still think two recent games have it beat.
-The last home game of the 2002 season against EMU. Large sections of the bleachers were literally frozen over with ice and the weather was bitterly cold.
-The 2004 GMAC Bowl that you mentioned where about 8 inches of rain fell over the course of a couple hours. Fun for us demented fans but a bit tricky for the players.

I agree. Last night was some of the worst conditions I've seen. Josh and I moved into the FC tent at halftime cuz we couldn't stand the wind and rain and we were soaked. We are both home today using sick days. I'm not sick but tired as hell. It sux we lost last night. We MUST beat that school up north.

i agree
I definantly agree...that was the worst weather i have ever sat through a game in. The typical BG winds swirling through the stadium with tons of rain and freezing cold temps. Wow did that suck.
I came back to my dorm and I had not even 1 inch of dryness on any part of my body. It got to the point while i was standing there that i actually had water dripping down my legs underneath my jeans!

That Central game was the worst I ever remebered. The EMU game was bad, and there was a KSU game recently where it was really cold and with snow on the ground the wind was whipping right off it.
Having said that, rain is the worst. You can dress warm for the cold. There is little defense to rain and that wind. We only made it through to 4:00 left in the first, and we aren't the types to leave early.

I actually wasn't too bad lastnight, thanks in part to the 3 sweaters, hoodie sweathirt and Columbia jacket. The only thing that really got cold was my hands, but the wind and rain made everything just that much more miserable. There were two guys in front of me who were shirtless and had painted their entire upper bodies. All they kept talking about was how cold they were. Gee, you think?
I was overall very disappointed though. I stuck it out for the whole game in the front row because it's my last game as an undergrad, but disappointed because our guys couldn't make a score to win at the end. A girl who was sitting near me started yelling like crazy after the missed field goal about how she didn't just sit 3 hours in the rain to see the team lose and a bunch of team members turned around and started yelling back at her. Overall a very dismal night, but I'm relieved that we ended up being above the 15,000 average. At least the night wasn't a total wash!

If I recall correctly, the Homecoming game in '04 was just as bad. It seemed like we had every kind of precipitation imaginable at that game. From rain, to sleet, to a little snow, and I think there might have been a little bit of hail thrown in there, but that might have just been big bits of sleet. But the football team had a better time at that game because the field wasn't a mudpit at that game. But it was worse because it was colder and it seemed like there was more wind.

Michelle & I wimped out ... ashamed to say it ... LOL ..
We went to the car at the half, sat there and thawed out, listened to the third quarter, then headed toward home at the end of the third quarter. We listened to the fourth quarter on the way home. I thought we were going to win that one. This has been a rough season, but getting a victory over the school up north would take some sting out of it. We're taking the heavy stuff (parkas) to that game, because I'm not planning on leaving early for that one.

I sat through the whole game. My motorcycle rain suit, neoprene gloves, and foul weather boots kept me pretty comfortable.
The weather didn't bother me as much as the people who were continually turning around towards the press box, (I sit on the west side 50-yard line, fairly high row), staring up and waiting for St. Lou to bless them.
That, and the people using umbrellas - I'm talking to you, Freak - had to bring one that's red and gray, didn't you? Even though there was a "D" on it.
Then there was the kid in the student section holding up the red "O" flag for the camera.
I understand the tv coverage was more involved with this weekend's game than whatever was happening on the field last night.

I was fascinated by the decision to speak with former OSU fullback Pete Johnson rather than call the game being telecast.
I wish they would have devoted less time to calling the game in favor of a discussion of the socio-sexual implications of Brian Baschnagel's moustache. The former Buckeye wingback's "look" greatly influenced both gay and straight porn stars for generations to .....come....(ouch, that was bad)

MAC Championship game in 2003. It was so cold and that wind was bitter. It's one of the few games where I just wanted it to end so I could go get warm. It also helped that we were getting slaughtered by the Miami offense.
Last night was pretty bad, and I do think it was worse than last year's Miami game (which we waited out and had a blast!). I stayed for the whole game last night and I am glad I did. Thanks to everyone who stayed the whole time...way to be diehard (because with that weather, we could possibly die from hypothermia) Falcon fans!!
