i'm not gonna be posting much. work got less busy, but i recently injured an arm, which means typing is difficult right now. that's why i couldn't make the game; can't drive right now (my five tix counted tho).

bottom line -- as ugly as the game looked, that's grass and i really hope we stick with it. that game was special, and we will be talking about it for a long time.

maybe we can look into ways to improve drainage... but i'm not sure that's possible. bedrock is pretty close to the surface in bg if memory serves...

that game would have been far less interesting in orange uniforms on plastic.

Noone finds it ironic that weather was almost identical vs. Miami last year?

Have you seen the NFL fields from the 60's and 70's.... there was mud... painted green mud.... and more mud... but whatever.... its not BG's fault that the BAND got of the field and tore it up... its not BG's fault that there are 300lb men running around on the field... the only thing they could do better is have better drainage... but whatever.

Oh and the tarp you all want for the field.... you need a new one...as the current one has more holes then swiss cheese.... and you don't have a crew to pull it on and off the field... thats the responsibility of the baseball team.... hard to pull them out of class to put a tarp on a field don't ya think? plus the tarp would have to come off at 5:00 anyways for warmups.

Major props to those who sat through the rain storm...

Your AD is a class act, met him last night up in his booth... the man has a lot going on!

The band was really surprised at how muddy the field was going on the field for just pregame. And we've been marching in mud basically the past few weeks getting ready for the game.

The field definately needs better drainage.

The reason why the field was so muddy is because we've had rain on and off for the last week and a half at least. The field hasn't had time to drain. It may be because the drainage isn't as good as it should be. But I thought several years ago the turf was torn up and the drainage problem was supposed to have been fixed. Oh well, oh and as far as the band tearing up the field, as you put it redskins, the football team had that taken care of long before the band got there. We don't wear cleats like the football team (or wisconsin's band for that matter) therefore we can't possibly do as much damage to the field as the football team.

Telling the defending Ohio Sports Turf Association Field of The Year to switch to FieldTurf would be like firing the National League Manager of The Year. . . . . .

I don't want to start a band war here... but in conditions like that, isn't it more important to not have the band on the field and keep it in as good of a condition as possible?

I know you practice every week, you put on great shows, but truth be told, the field is there for the players to play on and any additional wear that could be avoided, should be avoided.

If BG puts in field turf they will never see another dime of my money in donations. Football is made for grass, period.

That being said, I really think we need to invest in a good tarp. The field should've been covered for the better part of the last 2 weeks with the rainy, crappy weather. Re-tiling the field could also be an option to help drainage.

Football should be played on grass, that is undeniable fact. However, it is possible for grass to hold up better to conditions than it did last night. Having a good tarp (and system for putting the tarp on the field) will go a long way to keeping the field in better condition.

But the band also contributed to that. I noticed right away that the North end of the field was in much worse shape. That is where the band did a lot of marching during the pregame. I agree with redskins4ever, the band should have stayed on the sidelines, pre-game and halftime. sorry.

We should just get a retractable roof put on the Doyt. Then that eliminates the weather, would help increase attendance, and make us seem more professional. Or just but a big awning on the Sebo center.

I must say I'm a fan of the mud. As a former soccer player, I loved playing in the mud and would intentionally aim for the mud puddles. I do understand that artifical turf would be nice, but personally, I like the mud.

I'm just going to come right out and say this, not to you directly Warthog, yours was simply the last relevant post.

BULLSH!T. There is no phucking way that a 150 lb. bando doing a CHAIR STEP can do as much damage to the field as a 300 lb. linebacker. It's ridiculous to say that the band using the field made it worse. We do not slide on it. We do not run on it. We do not wear cleats. We do not throw each other into it. We don't even walk on it. During pregame, we are one the field for something like 15-20 minutes, and for most of that time, we are standing still in the tunnel formation. And by half time, Schad was right, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. The band's influence in negligible. NEGLIGIBLE.

People, this is COLLEGE FOOTBALL. Muddy fields, marching bands, horrible rain, and the love of the game. If you don't like it, watch the whiny pricks who went pro. They'll understand. I'm tired of this lame azz argument.

To my FMB, I love you, I miss you, and I hope to see you all soon. Keep on keepin' on.

Saxy out.

I will be interested in seeing what the AD does about the field. Since he is from Purdue, and they usually have an excellent natural grass field, perhaps he can call in a favor or two and we can see a major improvement. I am still on the fence on field turf though.

Saxy, I respect your opinion but will gracefully disagree. 100 or so people walking around in a rain soaked grassy area will turn it to mud despite there lack of size or footwear. I am not saying any of this to bash the band in any way shape or form.
