The amazing thing is that entire year, the field was/will be officially used 4 times and one of them happened to be the Mud Bowl on national television.
I want to keep grass for the aformentioned reasons, but it should never turn into what it did on Wednesday. Cover it, put stuff down, call James Whitmore...do something! I enjoyed playing in muddy conditions, but it can't be appealing to the speedy receivers and skill position players we're trying to attract to run the spread offense.
Turf might also allow the facility to be used for high school games and other events that could bring potential exposure and revenue to the University.
I still say stick with grass for sentimental reasons, but other options are worth exploring.

joeFalcon - I think you make a good point. FieldTurf might open the stadium up to high school playoffs, thereby bringing an econmical benefit to the school and the town. Miami has hosted a few DIV 1 and 2 games at Yager and its a nice boost.
Think about it. The Doyt is very accessible from I-75. Plenty of parking, resturants, and hotels to be hosting some games. I don't know if we can necessarily "rent" the stadium out, but I think we could get part of the gate - plus charge for parking. The stadium is lit for TV, so games could be filmed and rebroadcast through local access - thus putting BGSU in lots of homes.
It would be interesting to know the economic benefits BGSU and BG see from hostig the High School hockey tournament at the ice arena.

Doesn't UM have the turf now as well?

Right. Even if it doesn't bring in cash, it still exposes BG to a large number of potential athletes, students and fans. I get tired of seeing the A** Bowl and Fred Savage Hall host all the big high school contests.Tech83 wrote:joeFalcon - I think you make a good point. But they, like OSU, also have the means to completely re-sod the field at any time they see fit. That is not an option for us. What would we have done if this game happened in October and we had two or three more games to play on it?Schadenfreude wrote:So is the University of Michigan and Purdue.
