BG's Recruiting......

Post by Falconboy »

I'm beginning to wonder if GB is even really recruiting as well as I thought he might be when we got WMU losing by only 8 Florida St. yesterday. Needless to say I was shocked. FSU with all that speed and they only won by 8 over the formley very lowley WMU? What gives here, every other Mac school hasbeen seems to upgrading their programs and their teams and surpassing us and playing very tight and well played games vs better BCS opponents. Gosh , where will it end.

You're digging here.

"formerly very lowly"? (or however you spelled it?) teams get better. WMU is one of those teams. Also, teams get worse. FSU seems to have mailed this season in weeks ago, and I'd be willing to be they aren't nearly as up for a late November game with WMU as they would have been for an ACC opponent.

Without jumping on the "Fire Football!" bandwagon, I agree that there are a lot of points where one can be reasonably critical of Gregg Brandon. But this is so much of a reach, I'm surprised you didn't fall off the ladder.

I understand that FSU maybe has "mailed it in" for this year, but still by talent and speed alone they shoulda won that game by 2 or 3 tds.

And WMU also lost to Indiana by 19 and CMU by 24. The grabbing at straws to belittle Coach Brandon is starting to outweigh the mounting evidence that maybe he's just a solid OC. And it's making me root for him to turn this ship around harder than ever.

And it starts Tuesday.

Yep...me too. There's legitimate criticism and then there's piling on. This is a prime example of piling on.

Include me. While I am still in Coach Brandon's corner, the criticism the coaching staff has endured seems justified to an extent. Mistakes are made and sometimes the play on the field hasn't been good. WMU is a solid team...they beat Virginia on the road, 17-10. FSU is nothing like they used to be. FSU and Miami are falling on hard times...and proves it can happen to ANY program in the country. ANY program. It's tough to stay on top in this culture where you must win all year, every year, or you're gone. Bye Bye. C ya's ville. I still believe this will be a good team in the future. But there are definitely concerns to address...as soon as the season ends.

FSU is one of the few offenses I've seen that appears more dysfunctional than ours. Their OC, Jeff Bowden, paid the price and got bought out for a half-million bucks by the Booster Club.

Just a side note about Western and Central's recent success. What will happen to these programs when their head coaches inevitably leave for greener ($$) pastures, like Iowa State (Cubit) and Michigan State (Kelly) could do possibly this year?

BG, UT and Miami all promoted coordinators in-house. We all know what has become of these teams this year. Getting to the top is the easy part.

Need I remind you that we beat the spread against the #1 team in the nation? Most big name schools don't see the need to just plain out slaughter out of conference schools like those from the MAC. Florida State may not be the power house that they once were, but to say that they are that bad or that Western is that good isn't worth while. Ohio State could have easily handed us a 70-0 loss, but they didn't, instead they took it easy and we took advantage of it by beating the spread. I'm not a GB hardcore fan, but for someone to find something as trivial as this to try to bring Brandon down is rediculous.

FSU sucks this year. Period. In my mind, WMU had a very good chance of winning that game from the start, and the score does not surprise me at all.

True enough, but I think that UT probably is not chalking up the Amstutz years as a failure just yet. That promotion has worked OK for them.

Much the same way they laid down to michigan and took it easy so michigan could remain number 2 in the polls. Tressel is just too nice at times.

To say the least, it has been really sub par lateley. Now that Urbans kids are gone, we shall really see what will happen.
