Just got back from the game and we are flat out bad. We should have all waited until we saw Hamblet play agianst D1 competition before we annoited him a "great player". He does not take care of the ball at all and why was he shooting the damn thing in the last minute. Please get the ball to Samarco. After watching the game I see us winning maybe 7 or 8 games. Furman is probably one of the worst teams we will play this year and we lost at home.
I was at the game today. I could care less about the outcome of non-conference games. It makes no difference in getting into the NCAA. Just prime yourself for the MAC schedule.
Oh, and we are not flat out bad. Just cold shooting today, IMO. As for Guerin playing, when he came in the second half, that is exactly when BG began their comeback. Plus, this loss is not the coach's fault. You shouldn't have to coach a shot from two feet out.

This team may not be flat out bad, but the only way they're going to the NCAA is to buy a ticket.BGorDeath wrote:I was at the game today. I could care less about the outcome of non-conference games. It makes no difference in getting into the NCAA. Just prime yourself for the MAC schedule.

Can somebody that was there tell me what Dusan is doing to warrant playing time? His line today was 17 mins, 0-4 from the field, 1 reb, 2 turnovers, 2 assists, five fouls. This is following 34 mins against Arky St where he was 1-7 from the field with two rebounds.
I just don't get who Dakich is giving playing time to. Sims starts the first game and then plays 5 mins in each of the next two. Larson didn't play at all against Arky St and he starts today. Clements started and had 20+ minutes on Thursday. Today he played 4 minutes. Rewarding players for working hard in practice is one thing. Drastically changing your substitution rotation from game to game is ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure that what Dakich is trying to do right now with the playing time the guys are getting is to determine who his best starters are going to be. There are the obvious ones: Samarco and Lefeld. Some guys have a better shot than others, but I think that what he is doing is figuring out who will perform as an effective starter and who will be most effective off the bench. That makes a whole lot of sense for me anyway and seems like the best and most appropriate answer at this point in the season with all these fresh faces.
I honestly think that we have plenty to be optimistic about with this team. We were able to come back from a 12 point deficit and routinely pull ourselves closer to Furman. I really do think we are the better team of the two and I believe this team will get better with time and experience.
I'm also never one to say things like this, but Furman also had a 6th man on the court with them at all times. Anyone who was there will hopefully know what I'm talking about. I literally will never say anything like that, but after today's game, I really feel that way.

BG is one of the few schools that gets homered at home. The few that were there know what we are talking about.BGSUSynchroSk8r2006 wrote:I'm pretty sure that what Dakich is trying to do right now with the playing time the guys are getting is to determine who his best starters are going to be. Furman isn't an awful team. I think they will be one of the top teams in the Southern Conference. Sullivan played well as did Marschall. Nate Miller will help alot when he is able to play.
Didn't see the game and actually forgot about it until it was almost over, so I didn't listen either.
I'm anxious to get to the next home game (and probably all the rest) so I can see this team against actual competition. At this point all I know is what I saw in the scrimmages. We have some talented players, but we are not a good team. We may grow into one, but we shall see.
At this point I'm sure Dakich is tinkering quite a bit, and I cannot say I wholly disagree with that. We've got a lot of new faces and he wants to see which of them perform and which of them don't. I don't see why Dusan even still has a uniform, but I'm not the coach. If it's me, I put him on the bench and tell him to stay outta the way, and write that scholly off as a lesson learned.
I do think Nate Miller will be the 2nd best team on the team when he's eligible, so that will be a big boost. We should win 10-15 games, but I don't see us actually competing for anything important. We could very well gel into a decent team by the end, but I'll believe that when I see it. I do think there is some raw talent here, but the team as a whole? To say they're more than awful is probably not real accurate at this point.

In all seriousness, most self-respecting members of this board, outside of Dakich's immediate family, gave up on the "officials suck" or "we lost b/c of the officials" at least a year ago, b/c the fact of the matter is, as long as we continue to easily field the least athletic team in the MAC we foul a ton. We play horrible man-to-man defense, which is surprising since it's a staple of the program. As long as Dan refuses to play zone, this will be a trend in Bowling Green basketball.

Option, were you even at the game? Not meaning this out of any disrespect, just a question. I have received several PMs since my last post from people who were at the game and agree with me. Like I said before, I almost never will blame officiating because there are almost always other factors contributing to a loss, no matter what the sport. I still believe that, but sitting at today's game was absolutely downright frustrating. Almost every time Furman drove to the basket, a foul was called, but whenever we drove to the basket, our guys were getting mobbed and grabbed everywhere and nothing would be called. It just seemed strangely one-sided to me. It was the same ref making all the calls for the whole first half of the game, and all but a few went against BG.
Low blow on the self-respect comment, but I've got plenty, thanks for your concern.
