GB Packers need a QB

Post by dduncan »

I'm just saying to say.

http://www.packers.com/news/stories/2006/11/20/1/

Backup Aaron Rodgers broke his foot and will be out for the rest of the year. Brett Farve looks to be okay after injuring his elbow during yesterday's game.

GB's QB behind Brett? Harry Ingle Martin IV, rookie from Furman. Unfortunately, even if Omar can make an impression with the GB staff, his supposed inability to pick up a pro style offense may not give him much hope this season.

Why am I posting this? I'm hoping he gets another chance and am scratching my head at why GB has Harry Ingle Martin IV as their #3 QB.

I actually saw Martin play against Appalachian State on TV a year or two ago. He looked pretty good...

I think there's a lot of schools's like Furman, Appy State, Montana and Delaware that are playing 1AA but could easily play and compete in the lesser 1A's like the WAC, Sunbelt and sadly...the MAC (of late).

So...I suppose that begs the question, are they really 1A programs or are we here in the MAC really pretty good 1AA's? Does the distinction even matter to the average fan who's exposure to the MAC is limited to ESPN games?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I don't see this as a fit for Omar. Packers need a veteran QB that can provide some insurance behind Favre. They already have a rookie QB on the depth chart...one that knows their system and has been in it for the entire season. The last thing they need is a another rookie who has a reputation for not picking up NFL offenses very fast...if at all.

As much as I want Omar to succeed in this league, I don't think it is with the Packers at this point of the season.

I thought the smiley face would convey the sarcasm of my statement as it relates to the ongoing argument in the basketball thread about Furman.

Guess not.

My devil's advocate position on why we should entertain the idea of 1AA status deals with this thought pattern quite a bit. I would take it a step further and question if the distinction matter's to the casual exposure to the fans in NW Ohio that are heading to the Doyt for an afternoon of college football.

But I don't want to threadjack or open that can of worms again so I'll say Packers should let Pope be the QB. They can line him up and run the straight ahead draw three plays in a row for 6+ yards each time then not run it again like we did against Toledo two years ago. . . .
