Nothing new to report

Post by Jacobs4Heisman »

Same crap we've seen all year. No need to rehash it over again. We ran the same play twice in a row at least 6 or 7 times tonight. Not once did the second play gain more than a yard. During this time, I saw Brandon with the playsheet in his hand. Of course, the rest of the time they showed Brandon, he was wandering aimlessly on the sidelines with a perplexed look on his face.

How does a team that plays so many freshman, get so much worse over the course of a season? Despite the youth, there is zero cause for optimism right now. Unless of course Brandon gets axed tomorrow.

Tossed around the idea in the chatroom...how much do you think it would cost to rent the giant billboard that is just north of Poe Rd. on I-75? Would be sweet to have it say "FIRE BRANDON" for bowl season :)

Maybe we could get a good picture of him looking clueless on the sidelines...they're not hard to find.

I'll chip in.

The real number we need to shoot for is 250k.

perhaps then we could use the billboard to help raise that money, somehow?

Any god marketing majors here that could think of a slogan? I just think a billboard overlooking the Doyt that expresses the feelings of the fans could be a powerful tool...certainly more embarrassing for the department than e-mails or petitions would be.

They were tired because we didn't have any bye weeks.

The playcalling was pathetic tonight. Running the same play twice in a row is ridiculous. At least change the formation or run it to the other side. Turner looked awful in the first half but the playcalling was just as bad. Run for short gain, run for short gain, pass on third and long. Easy to play defense against that all night. Did we pass on first down in the first half ever?

Two thoughts.

First, we looked like we were playing on a skating rink. Who was the genius who decided against the molded cleat and wanted to play in sneakers?

Second, our kickoff return is absolutely god-awful. Did we have a single return all night that made it over the 20? We have discussed other areas of special teams ad naseum about how bad they are, but the kick return unit stinks as bad as any. There is absolutely no blocking. Every game, not just tonight, the kick team would have guys go completely unblocked. The returner can't even get started. Holtz was right on when he said, all you have to do is get the returner moving, then all the pressure is on the defenders to stop him. We put no pressure on the defenders ever this entire season.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Special teams is a direct reflection of the coach's attitude. If the coach doesn't think it is important, you play like sh!t. Is there anybody that thinks Brandon believes special teams is an important part of football? :x

Nope, and he's said as much in the past when asked about it. He's feigned caring about it this year, but the proof is in the pudding.

Our continued suckage in this area is exhibit 1-a of his incompetence as a head-football coach.

What proves the point even more is that we were awful in every single special team area, punt, punt coverage, kickoff, kick return. I bet if you look at the NCAA ranking, we are in the bottom 15 in all 4 areas.

Maybe Frank Beemer can give Gregg some tips. Va Tech seems to block a kick a week, or they used to.

All he had to do was pick up the phone and call Urbie. Apparently, that's too much to ask.

That's been the play-calling philosophy all year, and any casual fan of BG football would have been able to pick up on those tendencies, let alone an 11 man coaching staff that compiles 30+ page scouting reports.

I don't know what's worse, the two-same-plays-in-a-row strategy or the endless QB draws with an obviosly slow-footed QB unable to convert them into any substantial yardage.

I'll give Brandon credit for going for it on fourth and short from midfield in the third quarter. BUT, as we broke the huddle and went into formation, I turned to my son and asked "What's the play?" Even he correctly knew the play was Turner dive behind Winovich. The hole wasn't there and Turner ended up bouncing it outside for the first. But the point remains that even kids who see about half our games can guess the plays, what the hell do you think a well prepared defense could do?
